Decided to try get more sleep as I am working out fairly hard, last 2 night have been getting 7 -8 hrs n feel wrecked - been surviving on about 5-6hrs before that n felt ok.

My sleep is intermittant though - since I was young I have never slept a night through usually up at least twice (although only for around 5 minutes a shot)

Advice?

Routine works for me. I gym early in the morning and work till about 19:00.

6-7 hours of sleep and I try to wake up and go to bed at consistent times.

You get used to it after a while.

I avoid exercise after 7, otherwise i just cant sleep. I also avoid eating after 7 if i can, not always possible though.
A comfortable bed makes a massive difference, as does an aircon if you have the chance to get one. (A cold room puts me to sleep a lot better).

Lastly, I try go to bed and read for about half an hour before going to sleep, I find it is more relaxing than TV, but thats probably a personal preference thing

Agreed. Gymming at night really messes up my sleep. My friend is perfectly fine with it though.

If I had to workout in the morning would need to start at around 4 :/ too early for me

I find this as well. My normall sleeping pattern during the week is 22:00 - 06:00. I find that if for whatever reason I go to sleep an hour or so later, I feel slightly less tired in the morning.

I think planet fitness has some 24 hour gyms

Hate to say it but...there's an app for that. Sleep cycle. It has helped me to sleep better by waking me up at the optimal time according to my sleep cycles.

I find over sleeping makes me quite tired and lazy throughout the day. Possibly you are just better suited to 7 hours sleep instead of 8+ (this is just a guess though)

I also get myself out of bed, if i wake up naturally close enough to the time my alarm clock goes off. So if its set for 5:30, and i wake up around 5:10, i get up. Because most of the time, if my alarm clock wakes me up, i feel shattered.

more sleep doesn't mean you rest more. same with less sleep. everyone's sleeping pattern is different.

a good rule of thumb to sleep and feel rested regardless how of much you sleep is to go to sleep when you feel sleepy. aka, can't hold your eyes open anymore. After a few weeks of doing this your body naturally compensates and gets you to sleep when you're tired.

The trick here is to wake up every morning (no snoozing) at the same time. your body will adjust. so some night you'll be sleepy at 8 or 9. The other times it'll be 12 or even as late as 2. depends on what your body needs

i sleep at around 10:30-11:30 and up at 05:30

im always tired even if i sleep at 8 and wake up at 8

lately thats how it is for me. Even worse, days when i can sleep in (like on weekends), im up at 7 at the latest, and there is no chance my body will let me get back to sleep.

Monday to friday, I could probably sleep till 11.

I only get about 5 hours a night, but on Saturdays I often sleep for 12! I find what I eat has the most impact on my energy levels, not how much I sleep. If I have carbs I get sleepy.

5 hours of quality sleep is far better than 7 hours of intermittent sleep. You just need to reset your sleep cycle.
