I find I need about 10 hours of sleep or just shy of that to not feel tired the next morning but that is a bit hectic isn't it? While I have always been going to sleep later than 8pm and always just fighting it out in the mornings I figure if I want to wake up bright and early and be ready in time for breakfast and work I need to sleep at 8pm. :(

Now for a 25 year old guy like me this is just not on!! no way am I going to bed at 8 lol. But I am getting kinda sick of downing a scorching cup of coffee while struggling to get to work on time. Unless I have loads of motivation I usually lose that fight :p

So how do you balance it out? :D I'm just curious to see what the norm is here.

Open your windows and your curtains ... The natural light and fresh air will reduce your sleeping requirements, I'm 5 hours now from my usual 8-9 hours.
It takes time, about a week or two to get used to.

I also feel the same.
And I also thought that going to bed at 8 is totally ridiculous! So im normally very tired during the week and on weekends I wake up very late, like at 12 or 1 to regain sleep... but it all fails cos on Sunday I sleep late.

Hmm I'm usually in bed at about 1-2 then wake up at 8.. First thing is open curtains and windows! That really does help alot :) I don't drink any coffee at all! yuk..

So what is up with that? Glad to see I'm not the only one :)

To me it is not so much about total hours as it is about when I wake up. If I wake before 7:30 irrespective of when I get to sleep I battle.

You need 6 hours of sleep at the age of 20 you can -1 hour every ten years cause by the time you reach 80 you will be to scared to sleep

It more about the QUALITY of sleep, when you dream, etc your mind is active so you aren't fully resting so what most people recommend is that you take 10-20min before bed to just chill i.e. don't watch tv or w/e. You should be looking to gain quality over quantity, then you can sleep 6-7 hours and feel great in the morning.

Note: I don't stick to these rules, i make the most of my night so i end up being really tired in the morning but when i have tried chilling out a few minutes before bed i feel a lot better in the morning.

You should sleep 6,5 to 7,5 hours each night. Under-sleeping (sub 6 hours) and oversleeping (over 8 hours) guarantees an early grave. Applies to men only.

Each person has a sleep-cycle. It might be , say for instance, in 3 hour cycles. So if you sleep 10 hours and you wake up right in the middle of a cycle (i.e. right in the middle of when you are in the "deep sleep" part of the cycle) then you might actually feel that *bleh* feeling and a bit tired. I think the trick is to find YOUR optimum hours of sleep. I've found that if I sleep more than 8 I am tired the next morning. So I started sleeping about 6.5 - 7 hours and I think I've hit the "sweet spot".

Another think I do when I wake up is to immediately through open all the blinds and my windows. And then I go and fetch myself my daily "wake-up" coffee :p

Very true - I saw a documentary on your sleep cycle, they even give you recommendations on how to set your alarm - to wake as you naturally exit a sleep cycle.

I'm not a morning person - coffee and a shower seem to wake me up.

Interesting so you just relax a bit on your bed before you sleep?

I think somethings wrong with me. When I wake up early im tired but recently when I slept for 10, 11 hours I woke up and was still tired!

When i do wake up naturally I do feel better than by alarm since my body naturally wakes up instead of being forced to.

I go to sleep around 11/12 at night and always wake up between 3 or 4 t9imes a night (rolling around etc) and wake up at 6ish...sucks ass.

May be you should try eating healthy if you are not doing so. A healthy lifestyle during the day shouldnt make you sleepy during the day therefore requiring less sleep at night.

i normally wake up round about 3-4 if if i slept early the previous night, its convenient since most new stuff comes out at that time, so i can add to my download queue then go back to sleep for a couple of hours

Just get into a routine of going to bed and waking up at the same times.... :)

I go to bed at 10...watch TV till 12... get up at 4:30 to let puppy pee...and then again at 5:30 to head to gym... gotta get the puppy in-sync with gym.
