Sleep

The good nights rest is generally really long? You know that you cannot make up for lost sleep by sleeping more?

Will take several good nights to restore the required parameters.

Consistency is the key here I think - when sleep patterns change your body clock becomes confused.
I assume that by reducing your sleep hours your body starts adjusting and a 'shock' increase in the amount of sleep results in that sluggish zombie state.

ensure you get enough sleep each night...

...although you seem to notice that yourself

try and get into a routine, go to bed at ex 10, and set your alarm for the 6 the next morning. routine is key imo

What I would have said. My sleep patterns are erratic and I know it's not good for me. Too little sleep leaves me crabby, jaded and almost feels like my immune system is more vulnerable. I heard that too little sleep takes it's toll on your body and wipes out time off your life?

Personal sleeping experiences

My sleep patterns differ over varying periods of time.

In the winter I sleep far more than in the summer.
Sometimes I can sleep for extended hours over several days until I wake up bursting with energy.
During periods of stress, I sleep more.
When I am ill, I sleep more.
When I am excited, I sleep less.
Sometimes I sleep very little, for days on end.
Sometimes during periods of extreme stress I don't sleep for days, then I sleep when my body can't anymore.

I can also powernap (the ability to sleep restfully for 10 - 30 minutes)

There are norms about sleeping, but due to a strange lifestyle and strange chemistry, my own sleeping patterns reflect this.

I believe that individuals can differ quite a bit in their sleeping habits.

I also believe that when I am ill or unwell that I should sleep, thereby shutting down non critical biological systems and giving healing systems an energy/resource usage advantage to repair and fight inflammations, viruses, bacterias and other biological threats and to boost my immune system.

I also believe in sleeping well before tackling a task that will demand stamina.

Talk about sleep, involves beds, and of course sleeping partners.

I sleep alone on a 3/4 bed, with a really good mattress, good pillows, and bedding that provides just the right amount of pressure I want to feel and the right amount of temperature control.

I do occasionally sleep on a double bed with my partner, but sleeping alone gives me the better restful sleep. (without having to tolerate snoring or restless partners - and I can read when I feel like it at 3:50am)

Many couples make the mistake of sleeping on a double bed instead of getting a king sized bed. The extra sleeping space makes a huge difference. I slept on a king for 7 years, some time ago.
- sleeping on a double is a sardine can in comparison

I've been sleeping exceptionally well lately :p

Yes, I posted a link in the last sleep topic. Too little or too much = early expiry. I do the same though, I find that after about 1am my thoughts exceed genius...inventions, concepts, business strategies, unbelievable! When I wake up, those I remember just seem like Heath Robinson affairs. Sad that sleep deprivation isn't healthy as I would be pleased to delude myself 24/7.

Few humans would understand this therefore these observations are best left unsaid.

Off topic: wrathex is a condom brand, right?

Yes, but it does relate that unusual sleeping or waking activity does and can happen and that it is survivable and not that strange.

(perhaps I should have mentioned that bipolars really do have different chemicals coursing through their systems, which cause different sleeping/waking patterns which are different to non-bipolars who have more normal regulatory neurochemicals.)

Off topic: wrathex is a condom brand, right? - funny !

Scientifically verified record is 11 days without sleep. Guinness record is 18 days without sleep. What is yours?

Four days only, by the fourth day, you're in a trance like state and in my case exhausted from non-stop activity and ready to sleep nice.

4 days is intense :D It is like borrowing time. I wonder if it has to be paid back?

I've pulled 3 days no sleep. Was at rage though. Wasn't so bad... just made me feel a little more distant from reality though (it's tough to explain, but it's like you entering more and more into a dream... I dunno, was strange).

Otherwise, I'm a log when I sleep, the house could be burning around me, and I wouldn't wake up...

I am assuming for those 3 days you never showered either

GABA is also wonderful for sleep and your dreams are just pure epic.
