Just had telkom install a 20 mbps line at my house.
Various speed tests around the net log me at 18 mbps down and 2 mbps up.

BUT

Browseing the net is slower than it was with my 2 mbps ,line......

What could it be.

I am capped 50 GB and have only used about 20%

Looks good.

Are you using the default Telkom DNS servers?

Hi, Thanks for your help....
I Have this pacer router that Telkom "gave" me, not sure if I can change the DNS on it.

Should I change it on the my pc to 4.4.4.4 ?

You could try changing it to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but this is generally going to make DNS resolution slower as there is no local presence. No harm in testing though to see if your current DNS servers are really fooked.

Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Is is just your browsing speed that is slow?

On further examination it seems that only facebook and instagram are slow. The rest is pretty good.

Just out of curiosity as i've just moved to a 20Mbps VDSL line, does one ever download P2P at around 2Mbps? I'm getting around 1.5Mbps so just thought i'd ask.

Depends on your ISP and package

If you are referring to torrent p2p then it will always be dependant on the seed quality. Well seeded torrents should get full speed on an unshaped account (around 18-19Mbps if your line quality is good).

Shaping will obviously also come into play depending on your ISP and data package.

I'm on a AH capped account which is performing at the same speeds as dial up, so either going to move to Axxess or Vox at the end of the month as I have accounts with them and on my vox I download P2P at around 2.5Mbps... Any other ISP's to look at?

Axxess and AH will more than likely give you the same performance - they both use the MTN network.

WebAfrica works well for me (capped).

True, but I have an account for AH, WA, Axxess, Mweb and Vox and the only terrible ones at the moment are AH and mweb. I only have the Mweb one as I moved from there 16 months ago and had to downgrade to a 1GB capped account to keep my e-mail alive.

I'm really enjoying Vox, I got 40Gb free when I purchased my Zyxel VDSL modem recently, I just find their capped accounts a bit over priced (Fat Pipe). Next month I will most likely give either Axxess or WebAfrica a try.

Lastly, with WebAfrica, do you schedule your downloads for midnight-6am? As that is the only thing I can see myself worrying about going forward.

You can schedule them if you'd like - don't have to. Completely upto you.
