Hi AfriMan. I am having a strange problem. My fibre connection is perfect other than for google sites. YouTube and YT kids buffering until timeouts and Gmail very slow. On openDNS but the problem is the same on 8.8.8.8. All other sites working perfectly. Any ideas?

If you are using OpenDNS or Google DNS, you're not going to get optimal routing to Google locally cached content.

Can you please switch to Afrihost's dynamically assigned DNS?

Hey AfriMan. Have done so. I am using google wifi routers and have reset everything but the problem persists. V odd.

Could you please try running a traceroute so we can see where you are being routed?

See below --- it gets lost at 6

It might be trying to go to the US. It should really be routing locally to a Google cache. Let me see if one of our NOC's can help decipher :(

And going through a vpn based in the us - everything works perfectly.

Alas... Not yet

This definitely feels like a DNS issue. Connecting via VPN would make use of the the hosted server's DNS settings, not your local ones.

Is it possible to turn your mesh WiFi off, and do a scaled down test? Then we can start re-adding the components to see where it stops working.

Great idea - will let you know how it goes.

Hi AfriMan. So taking the google wifi mesh system seemed to solve the problem. Clearly something about afrihost and google wifi doesn’t work. I’m gonna try set up a router level vpn to bypass the loca google cache. Not sure how else I can get through this. And it’s very strange that only google services are slow. Everything else is good.

The Google Wifi might be overriding your DNS. So see if there is any way you can set that to Afrihost DNS. The problem should go away.

Have set it to isp dns but don’t know what the actual address is - what are they?

Hi AfriMan. Those DNS addresses did not help. But suddenly tonight all is good on all DNSs . No delays on a tracert or ping. Not sure if you guys changed anything or google did, but its all good now.

Thanks for your help thought.

Might be on Google's side - but our guys are also always tweaking as well. Just glad it's working :)

1. On Windows 10, go to Settings, Network and Internet, Proxy: disable / switch off "Automatically detect settings".
2. On your router, change your Primary DNS to 1.1.1.1, Secondary DNS to 1.0.0.1 (https://1.1.1.1/)

From my experience, Afrihost's DNS doesn't come close to the response I am achieving now... and I frequent Tumblr... a lot... :D

Thank you for sharing that! I'll definitely pass your feedback onto our Team!

Have you had any issues using Cloudflare's DNS? :)
