Probably another blind construction vehicle driver ramming into Telkom's overhead fibre lines on his way stampeding to BP to get a cheeseburger pie and chocolate steri stumpie.

SAIX? UUNet, IS?

Got a dang slow download p2p and upload (not that I care), is also suffering a bit.

I'm on Saix.

Maybe it's intentional.. It's slow because people are abusing their connections. "No more 10, 20, 30 gig caps.. everyone back to 3 gig."

I was playing with a new linux distro yesterday (Sunday), and needed to do a lot of downloading, but speeds were non existent.

Picking up speed now - obviously, as it's now 6:41 and most people have buggered of home from the office.

I'v been experiencing slow international downloads since yesterday afternoon. Get a total combined international download speed of 9 kbytes/sec... Local is normal, so it's not my connection to Telkom. (ISP:telkomsa, 384, not capped yet)

It's 19:38 - I'm trying to download the FC4 kernel source, and I'm getting 2k a sec, irrespective of the mirror I try. I can't seem to find this file hosted locally, so I'll be waiting 3 hours for a 40 meg file.. and this is on a 512k connection. Something is screwy here..

Dont intend to sound positive :) But this is the first time in 3 months im experiencing slowdown since i got ADSL... so I wasnt sure if it was just me. At least I know it is infact Lucifer (AKA TELKOM)...

which part are you wtf'ing?

I was merely stating that telkom will blame the crap speeds on the fact that people are using bigger caps now, and take a "see, told you so" approach, and force everyone back to 3gig caps (ie, no more 10, 20 or 30 gig caps).

As for the linux part, I was playing with a install of FC4, hence the need to download a lot.

Hope that clears it up :p

sorry dude - i misread your post and didnt understand what you were on about :D it then clicked, and quickly ran to delete the post, but you must have beaten me to it ;)

BTW - I am on ISADSL and my international is fine tonight... Must be a SAIX specific problem.

And I saw that you'd deleted yours and deleted mine! LOL! :p

Im a noob regarding DSL problems, so how long does this slump last? and what is the solution according to telkom?

To be honest, I don't think I've seen it this slow in my almost 1 year of having ADSL.. this is definately a first. As for the latter question, I have no idea.

more than likely a problem on the SAT3/SAFE circuits, although I cant confirm this. If you dump a tracert for me to a US site like cnn.com, I will "look see" at your routing and tell you what is going on.
Ciao -

Well let's dial 0800 375 375 and see what they say...

[edit]
Listens to hold music... zzzz....
