Slow international traffic

Guess the protection commercials didn't make sense to SA university networks which is understandable since EASSy and Equiano gets the job done for the most part.
Expensive running on two undersea cables to connect to a 3rd :)

WACS offline for emergency maintenance

Some Internet users in South Africa are reporting slow speeds after repairs to the West Africa Cable System (WACS) started on Sunday.

WACS is one of the key submarine fibre cables carrying Internet traffic from Europe to South Africa. It is also a key link between South Africa and the South Atlantic Cable System, which lands in Angola.

"Submarine and terrestrial network capacity consultant Roderick Beck has said that unless there are unforeseen problems, it is likely the cable will be back in service by Sunday"

Well if only we had a backup? Like Starlink... But BEE and ANC agenda is more important than anything else.

Can this somehow cause MFN PON to be down somehow or is this just a coincidental timing for my place?

Getting a red pin light.

The internet is properly borked tonight. Not only is international erratic, but some authentications (security credentials) are also up/down.

Openserve has other options like SAT-3, Equiano for international routing. Putting traffic on those might result congestion and slow down.

You mean Telkom, the ISP portion?
