Hi

I am using a Huawei B315 router. According to the Vodacom coverage map I have 3G LTE and 4G coverage.

When connecting my phone and/or computer via Wi Fi the speeds measured are normally very slow. At times as low as 2Mbps. However, by inserting my data sim into my phone I have recorded speeds in excess of 30 Mbps. When inserting the data sim into 2 other routers the results are similar to the results of the B315.

Any suggestions please!

Your phone probably does Carrier Aggregation (CA) and the routers do not or don't do them adequately on the Vodacom bands.

Thanks. Besides scrapping the router, is there anything I can do to improve the situation?
For Huawei routers, you can connect to them using the HuaCTRL mobile app (available on the play store for Android) and play around with different band settings, provided the router supports them.

You'll have to google the exact model number of the router to see which bands it supports. These are the Vodacom bands (not 5G as I'm not sure what they use there).

2100MHz 3G
900MHz 3G
2100MHz LTE B1
1800MHz LTE B3
2600MHz LTE B38
900MHz LTE B8

LTE Carrier Aggregation combo for Vodacom

B1+B3
B3+B38
B1+B3+B8

This info is based on a post from 2018 by @cavedog so things may have changed in the meantime.
