Slow Rain Fixed LTE speeds (Afrihost)

I'm sure Afrihost can make a plan.

I'm currently paying R1350... With Telkom 220gb I'll be paying R350 less, but I'll be more than happy to pay the same for same amount of data.

- can probably hack it out, with multiple routers / sim cards, smart plugs etc, but that's a hassle, especially for my parents. And when I go travelling again, and something goes wrong, I don't want them to have to troubleshoot a setup like that.
Maybe.... but I highly doubt is. It is Telkom who determines the data and not Afrihost.
Using multiple sim cards can work but will probably work out more expensive than your current amount. Not sure with Afrihost , but Webafrica allows 3 Telkom sim cards per customer.

But as a reseller, surely they have some extra flexibility via the reseller API (not sure if true or urban legend) that they use to get you on their package.... I mean, I don't see the point of reselling if you can't customise packages (to see what combination packages sell best) - might as well let customers buy directly from Telkom, rendering the middleman (like Afrihost) useless.

The LTE packages is sold as is to resellers.
Afrihost does not buy X amount of data from Telkom and then make their own packages.
Afrihost just resells the package Telkom decided on.

Dude. I have had exactly the same issue. About a month ago I complained and they said that Rain has stopped supporting fixed wireless on some of their towers, the only solution they gave me was moving over. I told them that I needed RAIN as my backup. Thankfully the issue sorted itself out and my speeds are good. What annoys me is the nonchalant manner in which Afrihost handles issues and the response that you got from Rain. This has happened to me on several occassions.

You'll see from another post that I have complained about the MTN service and Afrihost's response in sorting it out and it just happens that I've experienced the same with Rain.

Knowing that the issue fell on deaf ears I simply got a RAIN sim card and used it during the day and made do with MTN in the evening (when the speeds actually were good) and the issue rectified itself.

Yo dude, do you still have any records (like email) from Rain where they explicitly state that they stopped supporting fixed wireless customers?

I get this often on 4G when load shedding starts.
Lasts for like 30 minutes until my router finds a working tower.
So annoying!

Except it wasn't loadshedding... on the contrary, we've got an inverter at home to keep the router going, when there's loadshedding internet gets faster cause congestion drops.

It's currently loadshedding (should probably come back on in the next 20 minutes):

Just sent Rain one final email with a potential solution.

If this fail, I'm getting in touch with Vodacom Business... They might just have what we need. I'm clueless about how this works, so if anyone's got knowledge, I asked on this thread. Is it even possible for home / home office users to get a business account?: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/vodacom-business-fibre.1069998/

Morning,

Hope you had a great weekend.

I just came up with something and I have a question.

Most other Rain clients appears to be Uncapped customers. Me on the other-hand is not on an uncapped package, via Afrihost (I'm still waiting for Gian Visser to come back to me with alternative solutions, as his support staff doesn't have that auth).

This made me wonder, as a client on a CAPPED package, surely I should be getting higher QoS (Quality of Service) on my connection, as opposed to the uncapped customers, considering I pay like a R1100 more than them and I'm on a capped package.

This is in fact the only issue I have. It's purely congestion.
When there's loadshedding (We have an inverter at home to keep the wifi going) my internet speed is brilliant, like 30mbps, because obviously most people doesn't have inverters / generators to keep their connections going. Just because of the internet I'm almost praying for loadshedding just because I know that's when the connection is good.

Before and after loadshedding, speeds drops nearly tenfold, because that's when all the users connect again.

Do let me know if it's possible to increase my QoS - I'm positive you can. Otherwise, I think I'm being scammed, because I'm paying R1350 for a capped service which traditionally should be prioritised over uncapped users, who are paying R250 - please don't tell me we've been on the same QoS setting. In that case, I'm getting ripped off badly.

I'm expecting feedback.

Thank you.

Regards
Ronald

Thanks to @mrlgm007 for reminding me that I'm a capped user vs most other Rain customers are uncapped.

I think they only offer contract packages? I was also thinking Vodacom business but I don't want to sign a contract.

Rain just phoned me - absolutely no difference between the capped accounts and uncapped accounts in terms of QoS.

Getting utterly scammed.

Okay, I know it's a free world and companies can charge whatever they want, but I feel I'm getting ripped off now, considering I'm paying R1100 more than uncapped users and getting the same QoS, where as QoS for capped is usually prioritised as opposed to Uncapped.

That's proper BS.

I hope @AfriFella / @AfriGuy @Afrihost-Gian sees this.... Cause clearly they aren't looking at their emails either. I've been on the phone with support a few times, but that's fruitless.

Was in touch with them today.

Apparently Vodacom doesn't own the infrastructure, but Link Africa does and have their own pricing. Much more expensive than anticipated. Screenshot 2020-02-17 at 18.17.46.png

Not 100% sure, but it appears to be 2mbps after 500gb (on 10mbps plan / 1000gb on 20mbps / 1500gb on 50mbps) etc.

Well if Link Africa business is a viable alternative for you then look at Link Africa with Telkom Business. Much more affordable prices. As for installation I'm not sure.
