Currently on a 200/200 connection, getting really poor speeds compared what I'm supposed to be getting? 'Cause the download hovers around 40mbps but the upload is rarely above 1mbps. Decided to downgrade to a 50/50mbps cause I can see that I don't need this 200mbps down since I've never even been able to experience it. Or maybe it's a router problem. Any advice? @PBCool

Maybe you are throttled. Some throttle. Who is your provider?

We are on 50 50.

Plug your router into your pc and see if it improves.

Run a speedtest ookla

Will give you an indication where the speed issue is. Vumatel also has a link you can check for the speed.

Cool Ideas. I just did another speed test now. Both upload and download are on the 40's not sure if I'm still getting slow speeds or they've already downgraded me to 50/50, I just downgraded this evening. I'm testing unplugged though. But right next to the router. Any advice for getting less lag while gaming unplugged? Maybe changing settings on the router or something.

This is the peak time for traffic. Between I think 7pm and 1am is the highest traffic time. Also is anyone using the line at the moment, be it tv or phone. it can cause the lag.

Check with your SP which lag is packages they have. they may have ones specific to gaming.

No one else is using the line. No worries, I'll just try and talk to Cool Ideas tomorrow.

Why is your ping so high on speed tests?

Ping should be 1-5ms more or less unless you in a region like East London/PE etc.

Also testing via WiFi is quite inconsistent at times so try via cable and when you are connected via cable do some MTR's via an app like WinMTR or pingplotter and paste it here.

Could be an MTU problem as well

What area and fibre provider is it?

Also are you using 5ghz wifi because 2.4ghz won't give you amazing speeds like 200/200..

Port Elizabeth, Cool Ideas via MetroFibre. Not practical to connect currently will try later. Positive from this is honestly I've realised I don't need 200mbps at least.

I'm really not good at all the internet lingo, everyone. I don't understand a lot of these questions. I thought since I'm playing games that don't need crazy low pings I'd be fine e.g. FIFA but even connecting to my phone hotspot is better than this fibre for playing a game of FIFA online.

Ah okay well yea let Cool Ideas support run you through the troubleshooting process, it could be multiple things that are causing the issue

Thank you for this message. Earlier on when I connected to the 5G network(when I had just gotten connected to the fibre), it was a very poor connection I tried it again after this message and the connection is now much better. I played a full game in a different room to the router and there was no lag. Thank you so much. You're a legend.

Test with a cabled device first and then see, good practice to do this before and let support know you've done so. If fine on cable then wireless related and support can also assist there.

I think it's fine I connected on the 5G wireless connection, now it works properly.
