Some back story, I swapped to Afrihost (Vumatel) in March of last year acquiring a 100/50 line. The line speed was good and I had no problems until the start of September. During this month my international speed plummeted. Doing a speed test showed less than 1mbps when going international.

I contacted Afrihost support several times during this month, each time worse than the previous. They would create a ticked, then close it a couple days later saying that the issue is resolved, which it definitely was not. I would phone again, and the process would repeat. During this time I was told they tried to phone me but I did not answer. This was definitely not true as I work from home and my phone is right next to me. After a month a struggling, the issue was finally solved around the start of October.

From October until January there were no issues with speed with my line being back to normal. Then at the end of January I go away on holiday for a week and when I return my line is broken once again. I do the speedtest, which shows speeds to CapeTown is 7 mbps and international being lower than 1 mbps again. I contact Afrihost to get the issue sorted only for the ticket to be closed because the according to them the issue is resolved.

When retesting the line it is clear that the issue is not resolved that that any speed that is not to Johannesburg is slow, with CapeTown testing at round 7 mbps, Durban 20 mbps and international round about 1 mbps again. I phone Afrihost again only to be told that they are not responsible for international connections and that the ticket will just close again.

At this point I was really annoyed and asked to speak to a manager in order to resolve the problem. I was told that the manager is not available at the moment as that they are at lunch, but that they will contact me as soon as they are back.

It has been a week since then. Ive tested my internet and the speeds are still not fixed. Ive yet to be connected by Afrihost as they indicated and Im getting really annoyed.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with Afrihost and if so, how did you get the issue resolved? I'm at my wits end as I work from home and slow inconsistent internet is going to drive me crazy. How is it possible to supply an internet service, but not be responsible for international speeds? Do they really want to let me believe that the internet that they are responsible is just South Africa...

Hi.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the degraded performance. Please send me a direct message with your account details, and I’ll check this with our team.

Yes, sounds very similar to my issue (OpenServe though) and had (and continue to have) the same issue here for the past 3-4 months with no resolution either despite reaching out and doing many hours of testing. Only unfortunate option left is to move to another ISP to see if this helps.

YouTube is shĂt slow at anything above 1080 in Durban in the evening because they're playing some silly game with Google and won't just let us connect to the JHB cache.

I have disabled both caches in Durban. It will start to gracefully drain now.

Please let me know if there is any improvement.

Give me a week to test out in the evening. Last night seemed to work fine, but I dunno if that's just placebo.

Redirector showing up correct,

Today I noticed delay in loading 4K video, with low bandwidth in YY "stats for nerds" overlay (30-50mbps), I see it's pointing to dur1 again.

Under jhb, it would show 150mbps and basically no delay.

Hi.

The Durban cache is serving traffic again; we will schedule its disabling while we address the over-utilisation. @AfriNatic

I

Is jnb2 cache also overloaded? 4k videos buffer issues still persist.
