Slow Speeds

Speeds appear to be back to normal. Help Desk says that there were speeds problems in Cape Town that appear to be resolved. Thursday night was exceptionally bad with speeds at 3KB, but now they are back to over 25/26KB on my 256kb connection.

Skyped my nephew in London. Browsing doesn't affect the quality of voice, so bandwidth isn't a problem. Latency kills it though, waiting between 1 - 1.5 seconds between replies. But if both parties are considerate and don't interrupt each other, talking with each other is quite OK.

BTW, I'm on MyWi 256, connecting to Durbanville Tower 126.

regarding skyping the UK: i've heard the rumour a while back (don't ask me wheren/when - i forgot) that our bandwidth to the UK for some reason is worse than to the rest of europe. Since i don't use Skype to the UK, maybe that's why i'ver never experienced such latency. In fact, in my opinion Skype usually is better than using a phone (quality wise).

It's very slow atm. Been like that for a week or so now... :S

bees, what modem firmware are you using.
For skype or anything like that you must use 50.0.1.66 as that version was specifically designed to 'steady' the latency problem.

I'm using it on ethernet at the moment. Will plug into PC and check - can't remember. All I remember is that when I wanted to upgrade it, I had the latest on my modem already. That was about 2 weeks ago?
