Slow Speeds

Take out the base station module (100kg) or the PA unit (37kg) put in a new unit and set it up, what could be easier than that, unless they don't carry backup spares as any good company should.

Then while they have happy customers they can repair the faulty unit in the workshop and everyone would be happy at the quick service.

Good morning

Seems we in for another day of slow access speeds, it's trailing at 128Kbps at present.

Apparently it is the Parow base station that is causing the issue.

Please call the helpdesk and voice your frustration.

I'm tired of this crap!

According to the network status page the problem is with the Core Network - CPT and not Parow base station, so either whoever you spoke to does not know what he's talking about or the webpage is incorrect........take your pick:rolleyes:

If the second one in the new page was the "old" report, it should be all green now except Cape Town Core Network.

GBM, the only people that might know is iburst themselves as to what that 2nd report is.

As for the CT core network still been faulty, well thats just not acceptable that it should take so long to repair, unless they don't know what they are doing which is also not acceptable.

They should give all CT customers a free month for the frustration that they put us through, not to mention those of us that lost business time.

There was a post here about that a few weeks ago. I can't remember the poster's name, but he made 3 cheers to iBurst for giving him a free month as compensation for the service experienced in CT.

That was for one person and they probably did not think he'd talk about it here, but can you honestly see them giving it to everyone in CT.

 If they keep going the way they are now they'll lose more than just one month of income.:D

Well "the way they're going now" is mainly in Cape Town. You guys have some serious problems there. The core network has been degraded for weeks now.

Actually I just downloaded a 62mb file from RapidShare and it took 10min and 7sec which is not so bad at all, seems they have managed to sort it out here in CT at last, hopefully they don't touch anything else unles it goes sideways again.;)

That's quite good. I usually get 100mb done in about 25 mins so it's STILL better than mine despite all the problems they had. :)

Seemed to be fine from around 9:30PM lastnight but back to a crawl here again.:(

Was good this mornit till about 8 am...

Yip dead dead now, acheiving speeds of 35kbps - This is ludicrous, don't know what I'm paying them for.

As for the techie, well it doesn't seem as if his has any scientific background.

What I did manage to gather from this exercise is that the new modem delivers a poorer signal than that of the older modems.

Maybe it picks up again later tonight after sunset.:p

Did he bring his bongo drums with him to communicate with the office.

Did he manage to find anything wrong with your setup, and what was the excuse given for it been slow?

I thought the newer modems were weaker as I'm sure I read about it somewhere on the net.

According to Ed's blog the CT problem was resolved when he posted at 9:45am today, time for him to take another look.

I wonder what's taking these guys so long to fix the core network in Cape Town. Certainly it's affecting all of CT. What does is do anyway? The Radio Network as well as the Peering links are all fine.

Sick of iBurst!

Spoke to Ed, he is insistent that the connectivity issues only affect a select few in Cape Town, what a load of bullsh!t!

Apparently they can monitor active modems and will be notified if there are any errors communicating with network, yeah right.

MrH on another matter - I need the contact details of a small IT support company that is in Joburg, Sandton area that is customer focused, to service a small PR concern. It will be on an adhoc basis initially, which has the potential to grow.

As far as I'm concerned Ed's credibility has gone out the window and reputation has been badly marred by the company he works for..... thanks for the pic Ed I now know who to look out for in future.

Seen this happen to a few sa companies and when it reaches the stage that they openly lie to your face thats the time to count your losses and get out.

EDIT: Michael check your PM in regards to "the other matter"

Released from IP 70...

Hey MRH

I am nolonger tied to the 70 IP, on EDIT: static IP 69 this morning and speeds are back up, I've noticed that my RF signal is up by a few points again - back to what it was before.

GamCo Bandwidth Meter 07:20 23/11/2006
Your current bandwidth reading is: 1018.80kbps
which means you can download at 127.35 KB/sec. from our servers.

Pinging mybroadband.co.za [196.7.147.187] with 32 bytes of data:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 59ms, Maximum = 63ms, Average = 61ms

All looks good, how is your side doing? Sure it will drop later today, might even go into a crawl but for the moment it is good - need to as much as I can while it holds.
