Has anyone got a problem with the Bramely North tower in JHB in the last couple of weeks?
I'm getting very low download speeds (most of the time between 3 to 70 kbps) but the upload speeds are okay at around 250 kbps when running their speed test. Also done these speed tests when the tower load is at 0 or 1.
Help desk is giving me this MTU and DNS setting crap which did not help at all.

I had no problems from mid July until a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like a tower specific problem or maybe something that everyone in JHB was experiencing? But they would have said by now..

Oh, right, i just came to laugh at the helpdesk.

I assume your signal is still fine though?

Maybe you should change your name to "TheNotSoQuickOne" <----sorry I could not resist:D

Sounds like the only people getting decent speed on IBurst, is the ones that live within pissing distance of the tower.

No as long as the tower is good then if you can get good signal from it (with an antenna or whatever) you will get really good speed anyway.

You can live next to the tower and if its a bad one, then your speeds suck anyway, especially during the day.

Gardens Tower down to a crawl? 14/11/06 15:30

Anyone else experiencing issues in Cape Town's CBD, Gardens Tower, before I start having to phone the Orange clown again?

Well im not on Gardens, but it is bad today. Yesterday it was better than usual, now it seems somethings wrong again. :/

Bad this afternoon again, I even had this forum timing out a few min ago

Should have chosen TheSlowOne as the username :D.

My signal strength, according to utTrace software, is between -78 and -80 db. I'm about 15Km away from the Bramely North tower. Tomorrow I will be replacing the omni external antenna with a flat panel antenna. Hopefully there will be some improvements.

Slower than dialup at the moment, looks like they messed up when they did the so-called upgrade.

Well speeds seem to be up and down so we can't really trust the connection.

For 7yrs I had a 33,6 24/7 leaseline and even though it was slow it was realible and it hardly ever had problems at a fraction of the cost with no download limit. In fact it had less downtime in those 7yrs than iBurst has had in the past week.

At least it worked well for business and email which to me was important.
With iBurst although it's faster it's getting to the stage that I can't trust it for business anymore and I'm going to try get my leaseline back for that purpose and just use iBurst for downloading when it's working.
If these problems carry on for much longer I'll say goodbye and good riddence to iBurst.

I'll second that!!

Yeah, it is definitely the worst internet connection I’ve had the opportunity to use. I really can’t fathom why they are unable to resolve the issues, surely it cant be all that difficult?

It is that difficult if you do not have qualified staff attending to the problems that they themselves create.
This company must rank amoungst the worst in the country right up there with telskum and sentech, unqualified staff in all departments and rotten from the top right down to the helpdesk.

Still browsing slower than my old reliable leaseline.

This is actually pathetic.. This forum took ages to load..

I remember when iBurst was on trial for 3 months - and I used to download at FULL speeds on torrents AND i was uncapped!! :(

I'm actually considering swopping over to 3G, i give up with iBurst...

Just give them time to do the tower upgrades. I bet that once they are finished, even Northcliff won't be congested.

They've had more than enough time to prove that they are useless, I've noticed that everytime they fiddle with my tower it gets worse, and as far as I'm concerned I do not intend to put up with any more of their incompetence.

Well then it's time for you to move to another service Mr H. Here are your options:

1. ADSL - Wait 8 months for your line to be installed
2. Sentech - The equivalent of pathetic
3. 3G - Prices that'll give you a stroke

So what will it be then? ;)
