Slow Speeds

Well then it's time for you to move to another service Mr H. Here are your options:

1. ADSL - Wait 8 months for your line to be installed
2. Sentech - The equivalent of pathetic
3. 3G - Prices that'll give you a stroke

So what will it be then? ;)

At this stage price and speed does not matter as I cannot run my business on iburst since it is not reliable.
I have already arranged today for my old leaseline to be reconnected by Friday, and then when I get my ADSL connection I'll at least have the leaseline as backup.

iburst have had their chance and they messed up badly which is a pity as it's a good system run by idiots.

which is a pity as it's a good system run by idiots.

That you can say again. In Australia, they don't nearly have as much problems as in SA, and all of their major cities are covered at constant speeds.

Revisiting the business issue, IBurst isn't recommended for business at all. That's why they all have Business DSL, which sadly comes from Telkom.

Rather Telkom than iBurst

I must agree with Mr. H – there is no way in hell that you can rely on the service of iBurst. iBurst is intended for kids that want to mess around with the internet in their spare time, how they can charge a fee for this kind of service astounds me.

As much as I dislike supporting Telkom, I can’t continue using iBurst - IT DOES NOT WORK in Cape Town’s CBD.

I’m fed up with their incompetence.

If iburst was run properly it would have been perfect for my business, but it's got to the stage where it is causing me to make excuses to my customers because I can't rely on the system anymore.
It used to be fine until they started "improving" the towers but now it's imposible for me to continue like this.

As already said in another post, my old slow leaseline ran for 7 years with less downtime than I've had with iburst in the past week, this might be acceptable to people who use the net for pleasure and games but it certainly has become useless for business.

Maybe they can resolve these issues with the cash-injection they got from Vodacom a few days ago.... Or maybe even improve their service in general now that the mobile giant is in the picture.

The only way they can resolve these issues is to fire the existing staff across the board and get professional people in their positions, sad but thats the way I see it after monitoring their service across departments over the past 2 years.

While you at it...

Now that's the best idea I've heard in ages - fire the whole lot including the useless CEO, what he gets paid for I sure don’t know.

I wonder if he knows what is going on in Cape Town?

 went down for about 15min and now I see we have a new slower IP range 41.208.xxx.xx in fact it seems slower than dialup.

I almost can't believe what you're saying Mr H. How is it possible that they provide such poor service in CT CBD??? It actually amuses me.

I am not in the CBD but damit it is even worse with these new IPs, I'm not joking it is slower than dialup right now when it works.

Ok when your emails times out and the little red led turns on, you know its time to start packing bags up.

This service has lasted far too long...

And like MrH says, price right now doesn't come into consideration - i've already got a spare 3G modem lying around i picked up cheap cheap from Europe.

Looks like they were trying to use the 41.208.xxx.xxx IP range late last night and now reverted back to the old 196.46.xx.xxx range.
So far it seems to be working again at reasonable speeds, but it's too late as I've decided to move on to a more reliable system.

It's a great pity since in the beginning I was very impressed with the system.

What speeds are you getting now Mr H?

@limnos - The 3G modem may have been cheap, but the monthly fees that Vodacom charges you is outrageous. Are you willing to pay more than R1200 for a 3GB cap?

at the moment it seems to be working at an acceptable speed, but I've lost all faith in the system as I can't rely on it anymore.

I'm not going the 3G route, I already said I'm getting my old leaseline back tomorrow and then ADSL, so I'll keep iburst until the ADSL connection is up.
