Slow ssd speed :(

Hi

Just got the MSI 970A-G46 AMD 970 mb for my ssd to work at max speed (sata3) and not my old 2( 2 week old sata2 mb) but the read/write is only 157mb/63mb on my agility 3 60gb.

Is that all?

I thought more like 300mb/sec ( max speeds is 525mb atto )

Hope anyone can help me.

Make sure your motherboard is running at ACHI and not IDE also have you ever defragmented your SSD? Or done a full format? Because you should never defragment the SSD or do a full format.

Windows 7 will not de-frag a SSD if it picks it up as one.

As above, make sure AHCI is enabled, and you have it connected to the correct SATA port. Download the latest chipset/motherboard drivers as well, and ensure that TRIM is enabled.
 
Defragmenting an SSD will shorten its life, as it has a limited number of read/write cycles. Just do a quick format, for the same reason

yes, did format and fresh install, yes running in ACHI , newest drivers installed, no never defragmented yet.

Ordered a SSD today, don't want any mishaps...

It negatively impacts the SSD's performance, it is not required no matter how fragmented the SSD is it will still run insanely fast because of how the technology works.

I have had a few clients who have gone out of their way to install a defragment program and decided to defragment the SSD. This is why you must always tell them to never defragment the SSD.

There are two kinds of formats, one is an insanely slow one that resets the sectors to 0's and one that just overwrites the partition, the first one is the one you should never do. The one during Windows setup is ok however it is far better to rather do a secure erase with the OCZ bootable tools.

When you say you did a format what do you mean exactly? Did you do that insanely long format or did you just do the quick one while installing windows 7?

The insanely long format is the one you should never do, also if you ever need to reinstall your operating system you should rather do a secure erase than a format.

Otherwise as far as I know, there isn't really much you can do other than updating the firmware and trying to maintain the SSD by doing as few writes as possible.

Remember that the speeds advertised are the maximum the SSD can ever go at, it doesn't mean you will get them.

What is your SSD model supposed to be getting?

Its a OCZ Agility 3 60GB. Max speeds is 525/475mb, but if i also could get ur speeds ill be happy Fudsy, but 190/63 is slow..i also want 250mb/250mb like urs at least :(
 
Are you using a SATA 6Gb/s cable? Usually motherboards come with only one or 2 such cables and the rest are the slower types...

Let’s first say that when we started this, we were absolutely sure we’d see a difference. Afterall, moving to an authentic SATA 6Gb/s cable cleared up our problems the first time right? Wrong. As we worked our way through the first few cables, we began to realize that the SATA I/O did its work when it first put together the Serial ATA spec for cables. There is virtually no difference between a brand-new SATA 6Gb/s marked cable made this year and one produced nearly eight years ago as far as performance goes. Expensive cable, cheap cable; long cable, short cable—none of it seemingly made a real difference. If anything, the minor variances in performance can be attributed to variances in the benchmark or the SSD.

That's a figment of the imagination.

Also some AMD motherboards have a rather badly implemented sata3 controller, try connecting the SSD to the other sata controller port on your mobo.

Look for guides on setting up Windows 7 for SSD. I can't find the one I used but this is pretty close:

I'd say check that the partition is aligned (in the guide under The installation of Windows 7!) and weather it is actually connected to a SATAIII port (they're flat on the board not on the side if the picture I found is right). Also try install the latest chipset drivers, and try a different SATA cable

All 6 on my MB is sata3, and i used the new cable what came with board, also have lastest drivers in.
