Slower downloads in FireFox5

I updated to firefox5 this week and my download speeds are now slower. I am on 384k unshaped. I used to get between 45kbps - 70kbps and would average around 55kbps on HTTP dowloads. a 700mb file in any other browser or download manager take between 6 - 7hours In firefox4 its usually took 3 - 4 hours. Was I just lucky? :confused:

Kbps or KBps? FFS I wish people would get this right.

If it's Kbps then your speeds were piss poor to begin with. If it's KBps then there's no way that a 384 line is capable of 45-70 KBps, with an average of 55 KBps.

yep possible some http downloads on firefox report incorrect speeds( or its semi cached, i use to get 70-80kps in firefox with 512k line)

mostly stuff from filehippo.com

Same here when I was on 512, but those are usually reported spikes and not sustained speeds. If you use a network monitor then you should see you true speed.

Sorry to bring shame onto this world. ITS KBps..... and thats the speeds that i got. Somedays i would just sit and stare at the speeds waiting for it to drop.
 
With a 384kbps ADSL line, you won't be able to get more than 42kB/s, unless the application reports uncompressed size and it's actually downloading via a compressed data channel.

Also, are you referring to Firefox 5 Beta or Firefox 4?

FireFox 4. I also timed it to make sure time corresponded.
 
Please take note that Firefox already starts to download as soon as you've clicked on the link, and before you've actually selected the location & filename that it should save the file as.

...this is just one of the reasons why we suggest that you rather use a download manager, like Free Download Manager, and then download a big file (~10MB) so that you can see/calculate an average speed.
