I travel regularly between Somerset West and CT on the N2. At the Spine Road bridge there is a permanent speed camera on the inbound and out bound carriage ways. I set my speed limiter on my car to 120km/h when I hit the freeway to avoid going over the speed limit. Most cars over read the speedometer as my GPS says my speed is 115km/h and I have never received a fine at this speed trap.

What irritates me is when a motorist approaches the camera they slow down to 90 or even 80 in the right hand lane. I feel like just slamming into the back of them some times. Using your breaks and then accelerating wastes fuel. This problem is even worse in 60 zones where people slow down to 40 for a camera that is clearly indicated as 60.

Do drivers not check their speed before they aproach a camera? Is it really necessary to reduse speed so drastically below the required limit?

Heh, noticed that as well

the moment ppl see a speed trap/camera, they'll slow down even though they are well within the speed limit.

It just shows how little attention people pay when they are driving, my guess is that they do it as they are not sure what the limit is.

sometimes the limit's too low on roads where driving slow makes you go insane

It irritates me to no end too. When I approach a permanent camera I just glance down at my speedometer and gently lift off the accelerator (if necessary I might add). I never need to brake for one, because I try to drive a constant speed, which happens to be whatever the speed limit is.

I heard they only fine at +20km/h for an unmanned camera, and +10km/h for a manned camera.
Can anyone confirm/deny this myth ?

That would mean you could do 140 past a 120 camera, but I wouldn't cut it that close.
