Increase shutter speed maybe?

You had me thinking there for a moment.
What I meant to type was 'increase shutter speed to reduce a chance of camera shake/blur'. Got lazy so I'm duly punished

Ok - I've been 'anaysing' photos and I do have sharp ones ... so I think the focusing issue is me.
This is pretty sharp IMO?

It looks pretty sharp, but to really judge you should upload the original or a 100% crop. This photo has been substantially resized. Not that I promote pixel peeping
but we are talking about sharpness/focus.

Stupid question - what do you mean when you say 100% crop?
I know how to crop - how do I know the percentage?
The new upload is still rezised to 1024x683. Are you using Flick Uploadr maybe, you can change the resize preferences to not rezise at all.
The focus looks spot-on to my amateur eye btw.
A 100% crop is a crop to show only a part of your photo, but the original pixels without any resizing. Handy because of uploads size limits on forums (like this one). Here are two threads that will explain it much better than I can -

Interesting, thanks SiriS. So basically it would be like cutting a piece out of a print. You can't actually change the physical image size although you can remove unwanted parts of the image.
Yes, like cutting out a portion, and keeping that portion's pixels exactly as shot i.e. no resizing.

Hmmm - I remember from last time it kept resizing, no matter how large the actual upload was. I'll check that preference when I'm home ... thanks for letting me know!

Interesting article.
I have no reference though :/ So I have no clue if I have what camera body or lens I have. It seems that some pictures are sharp to my eyes ... so I'd guess it is user error :/
What do you think of about the cat face sharpness, bwana?

If you're concerned it might be the equipment you should test the lens/camera combo. What I do is take a photo of a ruler at roughly 45° to the camera, zoom in as much as possible with live view and see what you get. You can see in this photo that it is front focusing a little (I was focusing in on 60), but not really enough to concern me.
