Sluggish PC

Is there any software that can help with a sluggish machine or is it really only improved hardware that will help?

Adding more ram will alway improve pc performance.
What are the specs of your pc and how long has your operating system been installed?

What Anti Virus are you using? Remove Norton or McAffee if it's loaded on the PC. Rather install Avast! or AVG.

If running windows XP, back up, format, restore. Makes a BIG Difference.

That is not strictly true. XP 32Bit supports 4Gb RAM maximum.

The maximum amount of memory that can be supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 is also 4 GB.

Explain? Having more RAM doesn't necessarily mean a speed bump.

Be patient, it's busy booting up

Maybe the HDD was failing and now it has failed = no reply from OP.

I highly suggest you to change your system. Buy a more powerful one.
Maybe one that's using Dual Core processor with 4GB of RAM.
