I have 2GB DDR800 RAM and my C&C still takes like 10-15 seconds to load

Well with 1GB it would be a lot slower

Closing applications (games) is a lot faster with more RAM, that is what the poster was mainly asking about.

Well, ID10T is running an XFX 7900GTX Extreme with an X6800 (or something, that top of the range dual-core) while Midget is running some kind of 6600GT with an AMD 3700+.

Ya. Well I am a bit disappointed. Can still only run at medium to low settings on C&C. I was not expecting miracles but was somehow hoping for a bit better than that.

May I just add that C&C runs smoothly at the highest possible settings @ 1280 x 960?

I'm so happy about that because it's so unexpected! I expected my PC to slow down to a crawl...

AMD 3800+ socket 939 like WKJ mentioned (the K8 Triton nforce 4 mobo)
1gig DDR400
Dual6600gt (the one with 2 cores on one Card)
HDD (not sure, its my fathers PC)

Anyway it runs Stalker fine unless Full Dyn lighting is selected which requires more RAM as it owns pagefile and takes long to load

I have
AMD 4200+X2 socket 939 (ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo)
1Gig DDR400
ASUS 8800gts
80gig Seagate SATA HDD

Also no hassle with Stalker. Just Full Dyn Lighting once again, I play for about a minute before all lag stops because I need more RAM

I never liked any C&C games so not too keen on the new one. My idea of a good strategy is totally different and no-one has made such a game yet The concept of building\controlling one unit at a time is not appealing to me. I would prefer if a game allowed one to totally customise an army or five and took resource controlling to a new level.

I cant wait to get my hands on Armed Assualt though.

And for the record my favourite game of all time has to be Jagged Alliance 1 and 2 when I was younger.

How is the performance with that dual-core 6600? One of my mates told me that it's more hassle than it's worth?

Anyway its an ok card but it does suck that you are limited to only a few motherboards that support it. Also quite tricky to install if it doesn't all come right the first time.

I tried running 3dmark 2006 but it crashed on the PC so can't give any benchmark. lol

But it handles everything pretty well. Especially all the other yesteryear classics like Quake 4 and Doom, they run on highest possible settings.

Its a PCI-e card.

I wonder what performance would be like if he added another Dual6600.

That would be 4 GFX cores lol even though they are much older


EDIT--- Oh yes sorry the dual6600 does manage 13100 points on 3dmark '03. Not too shabby.
