Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to post..but anyway.. need some advice if anyone can leave his/her input...

Basically want to know whats the best setup to have in a small office of 8 people and if what we have is too expensive etc.

Current Setup:

VOX:

Monthly Rental of R700.88 excl VAT.
Internet Cap via Vox @ 10Gig = R463.85 excl VAT.
VOIPx 2 numbers > cost of call for month = R210 excl VAT.. (cellphone calls are routed via VOIP).

Telkom:

4 x Lines @ R160.26 ex VAT each. (1xFax Line, 3 Telephone Lines(2 of which have ADSL activated on them)
2x DSL on 2 of these lines @ R362.28 ex VAT each. (Total line rental a month = R1365.60 ex VAT).

Phone call charge per month just for calls = R500 ex VAT.

Therefore the total monthly cost is:
VOX: R1 567 inc VAT
Telkom: R2 126 inc VAT

Is this a reasonable cost per month? Are there better solutions? We situated in Technopark Stellenbosch.

Use remote desktop to clients often > reason for 4meg lines...

Neotel does not cover our area at the moment.

It sounds like a strange setup and a model that will cause you headache if and when you grow. If you get another support person in to access computers remotely, it just seems a bit strange that you might want to get him a 4meg line as well. Also having independent telkom and vox numbers and lines, means you cant really do basic things like transfer calls in your office. So if I call your techy and i actually want to speak to you, do i have to call you back again?

You should look at outsourcing your telco needs to one provider like VOX, or alternatively you could look at getting a PBX. You could then maybe get a BRI (2 lines) and a range of numbers (say 10, for example) which will work if on average only 2 people use the phone at a single time, which for a small organisation such as yours is quite possible. Or you could remove telkom from the picture and get a range of voip numbers connected to your pbx. Which option is best for you will depend on the features and functionality you want versus what a provider can give you.

Im also sure vox can aggregate your different lines to make 1 big pipe of bandwidht that can be shared with everyone (think it was called fishbone? really not sure on this). anyway, creating 1 or 2 gateways to the internet is better than giving every support person their own 4meg line!

What sort of business are you running?

Sorry, forgot to mention.. all the main lines come into one PABX supplied by vox.. so calls can be transferred to anyone.. have 1 switchboard.and 7 office desk phones.. Vox voice quality isnt what we expected... always a small delay..or you miss the first part of hello etc... or sometimes calls are just dropped.. It is suspected that is is because of telkom lines though to office. All lines have been decreased to 1meg lines for stability...
