Hello

I'm looking for a small android tablet (around 7") specifically for reading. I don't plan on inserting a sim, but wifi is quite important.
I'll also probably do some Googling and occasional TedTalks on YouTube. I'm assuming they all come with an audio jack?

I have never owned a tablet, and I have no idea what's what on the market.

Can anyone recommend some tablets from personal experience?
Price: Around R1.5k, not more than R2k. Doesn't even have to be new.

Depending on OS System you want.
I have one of these, they are very good for general tablet use

DELL TABLET VENUE 8 PRO ATOM Z3740D 2GB

They are solid and very well built
It is better to spend a few more than to get a R600 job that is slow and would be very frustrating to use

I prefer Android. I'll only use an Apple if it falls on my head. Windows...willing to try it, although it looks confusing.

I'm worried about the apps on the Windows store - not as many as in the Android store? I'll have to check if my reading apps are on there..

Thank you for the advice. I would not be able to tolerate something slow, it might end up smashed against a wall or something:whistling:

Hi,

PM @sauron he is selling a Lenovo Tab 2, it is perfect for what you are looking for.

Also he won the tablet here, so it is practically brand new.

Why not get a Kindle? The YouTube stuff you can do on your phone.

The Dell is very good, using Windows 10, but check with @sauron as Deadmanza is suggesting

I would suggest you watch your movies and listen to podcasts on your phone then get a e-ink device for reading.

Can you see images, tables, etc on Kindle? Or any e-readers?

I've searched for sauron, which one is it?

Disadvantage of Kindle (I have one) is most models don't have lighting. A tablet is really a winner when you want to read at night while the SO is sleeping.

Yup.

Friedpiet if you are interested drop me a PM.

It's literally brand new as I messed around with it for maybe 1 day and then put it back in the box as I'm not an Android guy (Apple sheep).

I got given a Amazon Kindle fire by my dad (ok, he abandoned it earlier this year when he visited) - it does all that, actually that's about all it's good for… I think he paid $29 for it.

I know for sex a small tablet works .... Panado ... re kindles the fire :D

But seriously ... the Kindle e ink paperwhite device is made for one thing ... reading ..... and it does its job extremely well.

I have the first gen Kindle DX. It still works. Battery lasts for days, can book mark and dont need to wear specs with font adjustment.

Tablet is just different - more a communication device for me.

Wrong. Tablet is terrible for reading at night. The LCD screen causes eye strain. An eink display with a soft backlight like the Kindle paper white is perfect for night time and will never hurt your eyes.

Dunno Boet, I am a lot older than you and have read close to 500 books on my tablet (2012 Note 10.1 which does not have the best resolution on the planet) and my eyes are prolly better than yours (I had to bring that in :D). You can control the backlighting on a tablet, especially with the Kindle app.
