Dunno Boet, I am a lot older than you and have read close to 500 books on my tablet (2012 Note 10.1 which does not have the best resolution on the planet) and my eyes are prolly better than yours (I had to bring that in :D). You can control the backlighting on a tablet, especially with the Kindle app.

Never proven afaik.

In fact researchers have proven that there is no difference. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22762257

^^ This. I read on my Lenovo 10" tablet using Aldiko. I read for hours at a time in a dark room and my eyes never get "strained". Only thing that Kindle may be better for is reading outside in the sunlight?

I'd have to agree with that.
