Who really likes living in them? I really and truly don't and as soon as I have enought time, I am heading out of here. I don't enjoy a lot of what goes down.... It's not cool. I think I will rather move to Somerset West and settle there pr surrounding areas.... I know I will be far happier there. What do you guys think of living in small towns, those of you hat has.... Coming here on weekends or holidays is fine though ;)

I would like to live in one, but it won't be a wise career move.

Pace of life is slower, less pollution, can still bet a decent size property.
quieter (well, at least till i move there :p)

I think I'd rather prefer a farm in the middle of nowhere. Must have water thou...

Edit : ooh ooh, or my own little island... :D

Were you at?

. Small Town people are all up your business. But I would Love to stay in a place like jeffreys. I think it is also better if you want to raise kids? I might be wrong.

Sounds good to me. Not too far from a city or beach though.

Originally from a farm, live in JHB and spend time in New York, Munich, Guangzhou and Aucland. I had enough of large cities with millions of people.

Now in one of the smallest cities in SA. If I could I would move back to a small town in a second. Only 2 things that normally makes this dream not come true, Income and security.

I grew up in NYC and a small country village in the UK - both surprisingly different experiences :p but both had their redeeming qualities. Right now I'm about 20km outside of PE living in a small community and I'm enjoying the best, and worst I suppose, of both worlds. A happy compromise as far as I'm concerned. :)

If I could earn my current income in a small town I would move in a heartbeat

Wife and I want to retire to a small town in the middle of nowhere.

Far from the Madding Crowd...
I'd want to move as well if I was living with a view like yours drylander . . . :p

At least I have a view, unlike our Gauteng folks here!

The Wild Side is also an option; a bit too close as it won't discourage unwanted visitors* enough.

With no Internet access ;-)
One rural home owner has lost out on sale of his house to 2 buyers due to no
broadband available (Cell, Wireless ISP, DSL)
He stays in a hole, neighbours have line of sight to a WiSP
Broadband access is becoming a compulsory requirement for sale of property

Just Love them! If the truth be told, I moved into Halfway House at a time when it 5 min to drive 10kms to nearest school to drop of my kids! And my neighbor had about 60 cows & we used to get fresh milk daily from him! My "friend" down the road, 1km. Used to still travel around with a horse & cart, like the old westerns, nogal!
I also got carried away & got a horse, some ducks, geese, guinea fowl, pea cocks, rabbits & various farm animals to complement the environment! Thwas great! Then came the companies, Ivory park & Winnie Mandela squatter camps & life has never been the same here again!

That is my home town in the Northern Cape. I think the places you guys refer to as "small towns" is propably like cities compared to my town hehe. Reflecting back I am glad I grew up there. I had amazing friends...we had all the space in the world to explore and was safe doing so. I feel fortunate having had the privilege to have grown up in the pretty much untouched and unspoiled beauty of the Karoo.

I cant honestly say I would want to go live there as a adult though. Perhaps when retirement comes I would consider it. Me and my man can sit on the stoep smoking a pip (or so far in the future a tobacco vapourizer perhaps lol) and sing vir rus my siel!!! :-)

I prefer big towns, like Cape Town. Don't know if I'd want to live in a big city, but I do like spending time there.

You must be coming from somewhere really small.

Hah!! You call that small I call this small, try this one -> http://maps.google.co.za/maps?q=Jou...4.7&sspn=16.801953,35.947266&vpsrc=6&t=h&z=15

Well originally it would be Misgund but some people would argue that that is not a town.

Depends where it is.... don`t want to live in one of those northern cape towns where all there is to do is sit on the stoep. Not much better where I am now...
a place like Port Edward on the other hand..... would move there in the blink of an eye
