So I'm looking at an aquarium and it's amazing how few have even a built in temperature sensor, considering that they pretty much all need a thermometer !

I can do that with my Shelly 1 and temperature probe, but wondering if anyone else has added 'any' smart device to there's ?
I guess the light and can be automated as well - but anything else ?
Do you get sensors that measure things like oxygen levels ?

This doesn't seem super expensive - but wondering if there is another option ?

Here's a dissolved oxygen sensor

But wonder about the backend :/

Up till 2009 I had a full 2500ltr reef tank and it was basically fully computerized

I had mainly a Aqua Medic system with computer which measured temp, salinity, ph, etc etc and dosed and turned on chiller/heaters/lights etc.

There was also a remote function I never set up or used but could have

So nothing new and I'm sure things have got better and easier since then.

I built a arduino controller for monitoring temp and ph. Temp/ph gets sent to openhab with alarm set if values get too high/low.

Co2 gets switched on during the day, and also multicolour downlights that are time controlled. so white during the day. fade to red during sunrise/sunset and blueish at night.

Well, if you add a goldfish to a bowl, you already have an aquarium smarter than most politicians in this country....

Looks interesting OP, keep us updated on what else you find

Parent site https://www.neptunesystems.com/apex-2016/
Local - http://www.aquaticequipment.co.za/apex-systems.php

DO/Ph/temp/salinity/orp/automatic feeders
Plugbar can control heaters/lights etc etc
Can email alerts if parameters are out of range from where you set them.
More salt water based but will also work on fresh as long as you not trying to check your salinity on your FW tank

All connects so you can view it online when your away like above, You can also turn things on/off that way also

Technology comes and goes, but a tank is a tank. Why would you want to have built-in anything when it's far better to have tech that you easily replace if it breaks or become redundent?

Don't think other than a temp guage there is even anything that you can buy that comes as a "built in" is there.
Few brands of controllers that can be added on Apex,Profilux,Aquamedic but that's mostly for salt tanks

There are a few tanks with built-in water pumps and filters. I don't think any serious aquarium hobbyist would buy them though.

Like the Jewel & Boyu all in ones yip, red sea somewhat on the salt side also

I don't think things like temperature, PH or dissolved oxygen is going to be changed soon though ?

And yes - things can break or become redundant, just like TVs or phones or almost anything electronic.

DO even on my salt tank was pretty much a waste of time - i put it in to see if i could learn something from it but nope.

I got a coral disease i can't get rid of wiping out all my garden now but there's a couple of older pics

If you like chemistry a bit Dolby you'd enjoy salt

Whew !

Just to clarify - the tank I'm looking at is a little 19l freshwater with a few little guppy, snail and shrimp ... we're not in the same league ;)

And salt - isn't that a huge mission ?

I'm looking at this one. I like the fact it's got a compartment with the filter / heater hidden from view - but it would have been so much better with a small temperature gauge.

Now I'm going to dangle a little Shelly temperature probe into the cavity at the back

That'll work fine, you can get little stick on digital temp read out meters if you want one like that.
Salt - fish is easy , corals is another step.
For heat you can get fans that clamp on the top if the summer is pushing the temp too high.
Heater & your done.....
Aquarium hobby can be worse than photography hobby if your not careful, can be as easy or as complicated as you like :)
