So i have tried a few VPNs on my Firestick 4K and non of them work, so i was wondering if i were to use a Smart DNS to bypass region restrictions on my streaming services on my router, would that work with my Firestick?

And if so, how would i go about entering the DNS details in my Huawei B618 (latest update - new UI etc)

Hi, somebody has to correct me if I'm wrong on this part (don't have a B618 yet, only going off a B525's experience) but after the new UI refresh, Huawei made it close to impossible to configure your own DNS on their routers, if you haven't had installed the update you could've still used a console setting to show the hidden menu to enter your details but this has since been removed to my public knowledge.
You can, according to some blogs, input your DNS in the advanced connection settings in the Firestick though, so it's worth a shot there.

I have smartdnsproxy setup on a router that has DDWRT, works perfectly.

This is how I do it in my router using a MikroTik.
Basically force DNS traffic to the router so any device is overwritten.

I have one of those TPlink loadbalance routers, TL-R470T+ that i could use if it isnt possible to change DNS settings on the b618? But not sure if it is possible to do so on them either.
Any help would be much appriciated.

Yeah can set dns on that. Tplink load balancer does limit the speed I think, cpu can't keep up lol

Currently on Telkom LTE, so shouldnt be that big of deal, maybe in the future when fibre becomes available in my region.

Since i havent subed to a DNS service, ill give Windscribe a go.
But would prefere an option that would cover every streaming device on my network as to not have to manage different apps, programs etc on every device.
Then you're going to want to setup the smart dns on the router - or an old router in between your Huawei and the network. VPNs are a waste of time for streaming if there is more than one device using more than one streaming service.

Seems like the best option would be to have the TPlink handle the DNS between the network and Huawei, and have my Unifi AP Pro take the wifi duties.
Would that be the optimal setup with what i have?
Not looking to spend money on more hardware just yet and use what i have on hand.

ROOter works well too and I have never bricked a router

Quite comprehensive coverage of VPN's

Quite a lot of info. Thank you.
Windscribe is a username and password. Set your country and you are good to go. So also Nord, etc. But that is only on On iPhone, iPad, Mac or Windows PC, or as a browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

No Router/modem gives me that option at this moment. Maybe the very expensive ones. Please tell.
