I get a message saying the above at POST

Any way i can solve this problem without chucking away the HDD?

It's a 160GB samsung SATA

Thanks in advance

No. Do what it says and backup and chuck it. It may run fine for 1 year it may pack up today....

Yes i did, same problem. Everest says the following under SMART "Reallocated Sector Count Pre-Failure Imminent loss of data"

meh, typical Samsung stuff, warranty expired in September too

This is the modern equivalent of the old Bad Sectors, i.e. a read/write operation has failed and the sector contents moved from the bad sector to a new undamaged sector. This happens on all disks, but indicates a problem if the error is too frequent. Your disk is buggered, luckily you can still rescue your data....

:)

I just saw in another thread that Samsung have a 5 year warranty on HDDs and not a 3 year warranty as i thought. So...my drive was manufactured in September 2006, who can i take it to to get it replaced/repaired? I don't have the receipt for it, it came in a pre-built pc
