I've had this contract since October 2014 where I get 15gb anytime and 15gb nighttime data per month for R607 per month, which I still think was a good deal, the only problem is that I want to upgrade to a package where I get more data per month and now the lady at the Telkom store tells me that the only way that they can help is that I must cancel my current contract and pay a cancel penalty of R1800, and then take out a new contract that offers more data.

Surely this doesn't make sense? Can the Telkom rep perhaps assist with this?

From what I've been told by a Telkom sales person is that they do not charge to migrate a contract to a more expensive package but will charge to downgrade.

You should be able to swicth to the 50GB R699 package without any hassle.

That being said, this is Telkom and anything that has to do with their accounts department will probably end up causing you much more grief than expected anyway.

I got a credit from them in March due to service disruption and then cancelled my account.
Still getting billed and my line was only officially cancelled last week.

Applied for a 20GB LTE package over the weekend, got approval on Monday followed by an SMS saying that there are some issues.
Went in store yesterday and was told that there is no application on the system for me. :)

I want to upgrade to the 100GB service which is on special at the moment for R999 per month.

They phoned me back at last today, but it wasn't good news, I've got the SmartInternet package, and they don't allow migration/upgrades from that to the HomeOffice packages. So I have to cancel my package and take out the new one. Not really worth it to pay the R1800 cancellation fee.

So because they are stubborn they are saying NO to me paying R400 per month extra on the new package, only works out to close to R10k over two years that they simply do not want from me.

Well that's terrible.. Sometimes products are so rigid that they devalue the total offering to a customer
