Smartphone for Google Apps - what to consider

I'm due for a contract extension (upgrade) next month so have started looking at what phone to get. In the past I've always been offered the very high end phones for free (iPhone4, BB9000) on the upgrade so don't think it will be too different this time.

I use lots of Google services and apps everyday - Gmail, Drive/Docs, +, scholar, news, etc. It's my primary work environment. I've done some searching on the net and don't seem to find a clear leader in terms of phones 'for Google'. Most roads seem to lead to the Galaxy S3 but I've looked at that it's too big.

I'm not keen on another iPhone and would look at BB if there wasn't so much bad press about them at the momen even though BB has basically nothing to do with Google.

Very few people I know have Android phones so I'm not sure where to start with them. What I know that I am looking for is smallish phone with (if possible) good battery life.

Any thoughts, ideas, opinions, advice, slander and ridicule is welcome.
 
Hi, first of all the S3 isn't that big go to your provider and ask for a model. I can recommend any Samsung Galaxy series be it S2,S3 or the Note. Also look at the new Sony Xperia range. The best option for Android is Samsung in my opinion:love:
 
If you are doing work, then i suggest a tablet. Its not as heavy to carry around as a laptop, and its perfect size. I would suggest a 10 inch tablet like the Galaxy Note 10.1 or the iPad, but i have to say that the Galaxy 7 inch tablet is not to bad as well. There is also a 7.7 and an 8.9 inch tablet.

I personally have stuck with a 7 inch tablet, having previously had the HTC Flyer, and now the Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus, and it does what i want it to do ie docs, email, and browsing.

Of course each to their own, and some people prefer a bigger screen for a tablet, but that is your decison, so go into a store, and get a feel of each one. Good luck
 
The S3 is really not that big. Because of its shape, it is actually very comfortable to hold. Go to a Cell C / Vodacom / MTN store and ask one of the sales agents to show you their demo models. You might change your mind.
 
The S3 is fairly big if you have small hands, but you get used to it very quickly and then the size is just awesome and anything else seems inadequate. The Nexus is also a very good choice if you want to Google-it-up
 
Thanks for the replies so far. I'll definitely check out the Xperia's. Had not thought of that.
As mentioned I've seen the S3 and it is too big. I want something smaller.

I have an iPad and will change to an Andriod tablet in next round of tablet purchasing but my question is about a handset not the tablet world.
