Do you want bubbles and nasties to appear the first time your car gets very hot baking in the sun?
Rather go with the guys that use quality products and stand by their workmanship.

If you decide to go the cheap route, then go DIY and save a extra R50.
 
We do it at our dealership for about R350 a window depending on the size of the vehicle and windows.

Things to possibly consider:

1) Micron thickness ?? We normally fit 100 microns, you can do 150 if you really concerned but it can still be pulled away as per above.

2) Do they do the rear windscreen ?? They might not smash it during traffic but it is a deterrent when parked up.

3) What UV protection does it have ?? Having proper UV protection keeps your car cooler in summer, less A/C = less fuel.

4) What brand of film are you fitting ?? We use Llumar, imported from the US, it is one of the best products out there.

Go to PG Glass, I paid R1200 2 years ago to get it done on a sedan. Shouldn't be much more now and it comes with a 5 year warranty.
 
We pay a premium for smash-n-grab in my area (like everything else) and I ended up paying R2400 on my Ballade. Do admit that I was happier to pay more for a quality installer that was nearby if I had issues. I did it through the Honda dealer.

Personally the cost of smash-n-grab at a premium is still cheaper than having your stuff stolen. I did more for my wife when she uses my car as I worked out it would cost us R10K if her handbag was stolen - loss of income when replacing documents, value of items in her handbag including her handbag and then potential loss of business if her cellphone was in the bag. I consider it insurance. Heck my poor mans phone costs more than smash-n-grab.

Can confirm. Massive difference to heat in car and also makes a difference on long distance trips. If it was only for this benefit it was worth it.

I had Llumar installed. Seems to be the preferred brand by the more reputable installers.
 
My next question would be, how do you know what they install is not just a tinted piece of plastic. Reputable or not, How can one really know by looking at the your windows that it is quality?

Good Question. One test would be to run your nail on the leading edge of your window. There should be a raised edge on the inside that you will be able to feel. More microns means this will be much thicker and more visible.

The UV protection can be tested by wearing polarized glasses. Remember tinting and UV protection is 2 different things, with UV you will be able to see circles across the window. I might be explaining this in a funny way but will make sense once you see it.

I know exactly what you are talking about testing it with Polarized glasses. Good to know
 
I wonder if one should go with Solar Film Foundation or Llumar? Llumar is more expensive and i guess it has a longer warranty.
 
Anyone installed anti smash and grab, where the cr has to be in the sun for 2 to 4 weeks?
