This happened in Smith Street, Braamfontein.

Vermeende breek-en-gryp-dief het Dinsdag (11 November 2008) sy rieme styfgeloop nadat hy 'n Johannesburgse motoris wou besteel.

Straatverkopers en ander motoriste by die Smitstraat-afrit in Braamfontein, het hom agtenagesit en gevang net nadat hy toegelaan het.

Verskeie motoriste het uit hul motors gespring en tot die vrou, wat histeries begin huil het toe die booswig haar motor se voorruit uitslaan, se redding gekom.

Die vermeende dief is verskeie kere deur bystanders bygedam om te keer dat hy hy weghardloop.

Die verdagte is vasgebind - met 'n tou wat uit die niet verskyn het - en later aan die metropolisie oorhandig. - André Damons

As far as I'm concerned, loitering should be illegal everywhere (especially at robots). 90% of muggers ply their trade by loitering on corners looking for victims - bliksem 'em.
 
Some things just make you smile! Like when you see justice being done! :)
 
That sort of s--t is dangerous, punching a guy like that. You can easily crack open the skin on your hand, and this guy was already oozing some blood - HIV and other nasties folks, so dangeous....

Another one for the good guys.
There was a set of pics on one of the news sites yesterday (iol, news24) where locals in Witpoortjie f*cked up some c**ts.

nice to see.
 
Notice the cross colour effort to subdue and detain the suspect.
Makes you feel nice, eh? As if the ordinary people are
less full of BS than the politicians they are swindled into electing.

I thought much the same, when I saw a middleaged (black?) woman beating up a thug. I thought "surely SHE will not be voting for a corrupt crook come 2009"
 
why did it look like he was struggling to head back towards the woman in the car? Or is that just coincidence?

Looked like he was trying to escape in any random direction.

I've seen far worse, IRL though, this video is very tame.
 
I was never mugged, not once. Everywhere I went I had a pit bull with me and a nice long, thick shambuck. If he stabbed me, he'll have to deal with a pissed off killer dog, and if he stabbed the dog, he'll have to deal with piss off dog owner with weapon.

Street vendors and other motorists at the Smith Street offramp in Braamfontein chased this guy and caught him after his smash and grab.

Assorted motorists jumped out of their cars and came to the rescue of the woman, who was hysterical and crying after the thief smashed her front window.

The alleged thief was forcibly tackled several times by the by-standers to prevent him from running away.

The suspect was hog-tied with a wire/rope which appeard out of nowhere, and he was later handed over to the Metro police.
