Smash and Grab tint work ?

Doesn't work.

The missus was involved in a smash and grab on the way to the airport in the early hours . Film did not even slow them down. Used a spark plug.

Someone did a *** job or used fong kong film. ie. not the rquired thickness.

Definitely worth it, great as a deterrent and effectively stops them from sticking their filthy paws through your window once it's shattered.

Another benefit is that it keeps your car a tad cooler as well. Only downside is that I find it's a little trickier to see outside at night if there is no/minimal street lighting.

Worth it, just don't do it at dealerships, they'll cost a lot more than doing it directly at PG glass.

Other than that, not too sure, might be included somewhere in a insurance inspection. Not quite sure though.

Id say something was wrong with the film. I had it on my golf and they tried to break through with a spark plug. Didnt work though, the pain on his face was priceless. That being said, if the guy had time on his hands he would have been successful using repeated blows.

SUV's with the privacy glass do not have the film applied to it. Its just dark glass. If you open the window slightly you can actually see and feel the film close to the edge of the glass, on the inside.
I have 35% Llumar on the 2 fronts and clear on the 2 rears of my Jeep.

Chances are if you're in an SUV, an averaged sized human can't really reach into your window, well, because they are usually so damn large.

On the inside of the window right at the top edge. Turn the window down so you can see the top of the glass pane. You should see a small film attached to the inside of the glass. Sometimes the edge of the tint stops a few mm's short of the edge of the glass pane.

The back windows were already dark. If I had put a tint on them they would be too dark.

The legal limit is 35% which means it allows 35% of the light through. The closer one gets to zero the darker it gets. I think the el cheapo tints go down to 15% which is super dark or limo tint. I'm not sure about the Llumar brand.

Check if they are going to have a "holiday special" this year. As I said in post #3, I paid R1200 last year because it was on special so it might be worth it to wait a few more weeks to save +-R300.

In general I'd say it is a waste. Broke my Coupe's larger window with ease I think (was not at the car when it happened), and the whole interior of the car was littered in glass pellets typical of the shatterproof glass itself. This also happened 10 years after the film was applied, so I'm not sure if it degrades over time, and whether it is only really effective on smaller windows.

Even if a rock hits your windscreen, you are covered in glass shards. The film is there to prevent the whole window from imploding and throwing big pieces of glass everywhere. Same with the smash and grab. Your window will break, it's there to prevent the whole window from coming in so they can stick their hands in the car. It will never be fool proof, but does help. That is why normal window tint will do exactly the same thing

Exactly.. this helps particularly when u on the road and someone smashes it. You get the opportunity to drive away without the person being in your car already
