Smashed and Grabbed

Haha, no worries, I am okay.
Just a side note, since the eastern european mafia group gone busted in Bedfordview, I noticed that all these crimes are on the up. I wonder if they have any direct link.

Yup it's amazing how fast it happens. Happened next to me once on Hans Schoeman here in Randburg, guy grabbed the bag and phone from a ladies car. Taxi freaking chased him down, guy in front of her got out the car and ran after him too, but he ran down the embankment and disappeared.

All cars in SA should come preinstalled with a miniature version of this:

I've asked this question before - well, asking what would happen if you were to run them over on a motorbike. And the results were.. Inconclusive. I probably won't run them down for fear of going to jail.
If you kill them, it's culpable homicide, if you don't and they can move, they will more then likely get up and run. Adrenaline will keep them going for a bit before they collapse. But you will probably have assault charges.

Depends on if you thought they where attacking the motorist. Hard to defend in SA I would guess, if they had any kind of weapon then yes. If not, rather not I guess. Still, I know of so many cases where a criminal was caught and the people beat the hell out of them. Have never heard of any charges being brought against the assaulters. Only if they die is it a question.

Sorry to hear. I have my phone mounted to windscreen whenever I drive and have been planning to get smash 'n grab film fitted for this very reason but keep putting it off. If this last year has taught me anything it's that this kind of stuff happens when you least expect it and always at the most inconvenient time. So... I think it's time to stop procrastinating. Anyone have recommendations for a good Smash 'n Grab film fitment center in Durban?

Sorry to hear, and yeah I also keep my phone out of sight and listen to voice prompts for directions; just far too paranoid of exactly this happening while I'm in traffic. Sucks that we have to think this way, but it's become the norm throughout SA, I think, not just here in Gauteng. I actually go so far as to switch off my dash "computer" if I'm in slow moving traffic, especially at night, so the light display doesn't attract unwanted attention.

Hi guys, just a suggestion:

What I did for extra prevention of smash and grab...I purchased the "window sox" for the back windows(if your vehicle is a sedan/SUV, more or less around R400.00), so I just toss valuable items on the back floor so it is quite difficult to be seen through the window sox and tint together!
Good luck out here!
