smith has to go!!

You all are crazy. Smith is a good batsman and captain. Everybody has an off day. Even Kallis,Boucher,Gibbs,etc. So that is not fair on your part to only single one person out. And by the way for those with memory loss we did not loose the game. We won it quite convincingly.

Off day, perhaps, but off season? How many matches has it been now? Smith has the odd on day, it seems.

Fair enough,ok then maybe he should be dropped down the order like Gibbs was? maybe that might work?
 
The last run of form Smith had was that series in England where he scored thoughs double centuries. Since then he has been riding on "Everybody has a bad day" And the odd runs here and there.
 
i dont like smith but boucher is not the right way to go.. I dont particularly like him :) and he stated that he doesnt want to be captain. So what the hell r u ppl talking abt. he wont be captain cos he doesnt want to be. Dunno if u remember when pollock ws still captain, he got injured and then boucher became captain. He then didnt want it.. This was the same match with the whole darly cullinan issue and his contract..And boucher doesnt run the show, dunno where u ppl got that idea from.. Smith runs the show, (badly)

I vote AB !!! hes young, enterprising, has talent.. but agreed after the world cup, no need to do anything right now. Smith hasnt done as badly as i thought he would when he first came.....

Smith has tallent, but we screwed himover by dumping captaincy on him when he was to young. Lets not do the same to AB. The kid has amazing tallent and putting extra pressure on him is not the way to groom him into a Ponting or Tendukar. Thoughs guys both had amazing raw tallent when they were young but only became captain when there game had matured. Given Aus and India prob weren't desperate to drop there then captains.
 
What is worth more, a good captain or a contributing team member. Both captains (rugby, cricket) will not be selected if criteria was form. Can the captain be a replacement. Get a decent batsman/hooker on the field first.
 
actually Tendulkar did become captain when he was young. He failed miserably and didnt get it again. But unlike smith there was never a question of the batting ability with tendulkar, lara, fleming or ponting. See what happened with ganguly, he couldnt bat and didnt deserve his place in the side and got dropped (although now i think they can use him)..

The way smith got captaincy was retarded. He didn't even make the world cup squad and then they made him captain after the world cup..For now hes doing fine and he can keep his place in the side with his batting, so no need to change things before world cup.. But well never be world beaters with him as captain. We need someone like Hansie for that......

A good leader is crucial, look at NZ cricket, with Fleming as captain they perform, cause he has a nack of reading the conditions and adapting. Same as Hansie.
Without a captain on the field will never work, unless you go full out technical like in the NFL. With ear pieces and mic's. But still doesn't have the same affect as a good leader on the field.
Apparantly John Smit is a good leader, but he seriously lacks in skill. With Graeme Smith its a case I think of he can't handle the job, good player, prob a good leader but can't do both.

we wait :(.. maybe 5 yrs from now when ab or some other young guy comes good. i think maybe after world cup, make someone else vice captain, no point having kallis as vc cos we need to groom someone so smith has competition...

smith was never simply "just put in as Cpt" it takes two to tango and he gladly accepted the job,i personally think he simply sits in the slips with kallis,kemp and bouch and speaks crap the whole match.He should be dropped down the order or as a number 4 batsman.

he has a big head now that he is our cpt,after endless defeats and real dumb/lesser performances he still is cpt?? what gives??

Did anyone of you watch the "Rest of SA" vs India match?

Aswell Prince was captain there and, IMHO, did a great job.

He may be another guy to keep in mind...

And yes, Hansie was the best when he was doing it flat out.......
 
Well the funny thing about hansie was that while he was apparently loosing games on purpose he was still the most successful cpt we had :o guess that shows how big shoes the new ones have to fill. Then again some of our older/retired or just simply sidelined players were like super hero's.
 
When we were younger, they were heroes. Now that we have seen the "youngsters" grow up, the best we can do is be proud... Pity so litle of them deserve it.
 
Consensus seems to be Smith is rubbish and not just here (on the forum), he was booed at Newlands when he went in to bowl. A home crowd booing the captain is not a good sign. But I do think AB is too young to take over and think the pressure may influence his form. Can't wait to hear what Fannie says about it all :D

And then our esteemed capt. threw a temper tantrun like a 2 year old!!

No wonder he's laughed at & disliked by most of the other international captains.

Pommie Mbangwa said it was poor by the crowd to boo smith. What he and the rest of his ilk need to understand is that it is the only way the public has to attempt to change our team. Hopefully the crowds make smith so unhappy he resigns!!
