Hi there, maybe you guys can give some pointers on this.

I have a client that wants to get into the delivery business but would like to be a bit more creative by allowing direct orders via sms. Must come out maybe as email at the supplier.

Is there any software package that can assist and whom does one contact to help setup such an sms-order system.

Regards

Try googling for sms-2-email. I know that you can do something like you start the sms with the mail address and then you send it to a number (can't remember what it was) and that will deliver it as an email. I used it tooooo long ago to remember everything. :o

Thanks sharkbait,

main things is to keep it as simple as possible. Maybe a very low cost 3 hundred number to send to with acount number, item code and quantity.

PC wil then pick up and convert into order printout...

all possible - but you can't except the client to fumble with typing email addresses into the start of the SMS.

try one of the many SMS provider - I use www.bulksms.co.za
That way you'll get a number like "34345", and any sms sent to that number will be deliver to you, via SMS, email, url, etc.

I wonder if you can create a USSD menu?

ie *deliverme*# <call> and the menu gets sent back to your phone.

Carudden, now we're talking.

I will start reading more about the sms route but the USSD route will certainly fall into the perfect realm.

The possibilities will certainly fit the glove if such a route is possible.:D

I suppose that menu would need to be created per cell provider. I've seen these menu's where they charge per second to use them, and as far as I know they were vodacom one's - is this simply a money making tool, or does it 'cost' them to have a cell connected to the menu - I wonder.

Has anyone encountered some software that can assist with a SMS ordering system?

Maybe also some email orders?
