Does anyone have any info on SMS and cellphone banking? Really just anything about it that you know of.

Specifically interested to know what are the charges the cell networks levy for using the services? Specifically I am on MTN and will be banking with Nedbank, interested in the other networks costs as well.

Are these services considered secure?

what phone you have? mobile banking is a far better option than cellphone banking. its a secure mobile page in your browser rather than sms's backwards and forwards. i use absa this way.

Motorola V360, by Mobile do you mean over WAP? Afaik that is what they consider "cellphone" banking.

On my Nedbank account SMS banking payments are free, so I'm trying to figure out if the SMS banking charges will be more or less than if I do payments via other methods.

I use FNB cellphone banking, it has all the bells and whistles because one can pay linked beneficiaries, buy airtime for anybody, transfer cash between linked fnb accounts and play the lotto if you want. The WASP service is free on Virgin Mobile.

How does it work?

e.g. Wap, application, browser, etc?

They are in two forms with FNB: WASP and WAP based. The WAP based model of cell phone banking is better than the WASP, but the WASP is more convenient for small things like airtime whilst the WAP based model is better for beneficiary payments as references to them can be changed unlike the WASP model.
