SMS from gmail

yeah that sucks. would be cool if we could send sms from gmail for free.

Will be interesting to get some comments from the vodacom, Mtn, Cell c and 8ta reps on this forum as to why this is possible in many countries in Africa but not South Africa. ???
 
Maybe it has something to do with the Rica law or what? How do the network operators get money from it anyway if we not putting in our numbers and the only number we put in is the one we sending the sms too?

They will make money if the person replies to you via sms otherwise not. But they do not make any money out of the alarm sms's that come from google calendar so not sure why they would not want to switch on this option ?
 
gmail as some nice features that we can use but they don't work in SA and that sucks.
 
This was possible a couple of years ago. I remember seeing Vodacom and MTN featuring on a large number of free sms sites, as well as in PHP coding of such scripts.

They however blocked this for goog though.

They also indicated before that they will not provide Google with access to free SMS facilites.
 
well then they will be the loser here. If there is a free app for the modern phone and a free sms programme for the pc then the networks wont make money from their own sms features anymore.
 
So MTN & 8ta can be sms'd via gmail. Wonder why Vodacom & CellC haven't joined the party yet?
