I'm in the process of setting up a help desk with online ticket support system. Its working great with web and email ticket submissions, The one feature that I would like to add is an SMS to email feature. The user will sms a number and this will then be forwarded to this same system and ticket logged.

I have been doing some research and I see that Vodacom, MTN and Exact mobile offer a "short code / premium SMS service" however they have large minimum monthly quantities ( 500+) I wont reach close to that (yet)...

Can you think of any other solution ? I have a spare 3G PCMCIA card lying around, maybe there is an app that can accept and forward the sms to a fixed email address which I then map the cellphone caller ID to an email address ?

Any help would greatly be appreciated :-)

I'm sure if you Google it you'll find a few low-cost applications that will do this for you, using a GSM modem.

I use NowSMS as a commercial grade SMS<->E-mail solution, running on a Windows Server with an old mobile phone as a modem. Massivly powerful app.

You can also see if someone like Ginggs might be interested in developing something like this for you.

Cool, thanks V3G for the input. My system is still in its proof of concept stage so very limited funds. Have mailed the fella's from MowSMS about their offering !
