SMS/Whatsapp Notification via mail

I remember WAAAAAAAY back in the day you could send an sms via your email by cell number @sms .......or something like that.

Is there a way you can still do it.
Its not a bulk thing it would be maybe once a month to four people,

I am trying to automate a process in the oracle database and would love to send a progress sms to the relevant people.

Most 3G/LTE routers have the SMS functionality and you can automate it.
