Hi folks

I think this was one of the posts that was lost last week. Entertaining enough to post it again :D

The Insider
- Business Day (Thursday, May 12 2005)

"Snail Mail Alarms Propeller Head

It is a rare event when a letter pops up in Business Day’s pigeonholes. Such old-fashioned communiqués have been usurped by e-mail and SMS.

Yet, this week, The Insider’s colleague in the propeller-head department dusted off the paper knife to open the handwritten envelope delivered in the post.

Inside was a letter of appreciation for the reporting of some public hearings into Telkom’s broadband internet services.

That was astonishing: first, the few letters that do arrive at a newspaper are usually complaints, and second, it came from the chaps at MyADSL, an online forum about Telkom’s high-speed internet services.

So why do a bunch of techies send a letter by snail mail rather than by e-mail? Probably because their experience with Telkom has convinced them that a letter is more reliable, and possibly only a fraction slower."
