Ok, so my question is about relationships. Specifically in organizations.
Suppose you are the employer and you have caught an employee who has committed some sort of criminal offence in the course of his job. Now you have the option to start a criminal prosecution procedure against him, but you prefer to milk the situation for its worth and get him to rat out as many as possible other unknown perpetrators.

The question is, what are time-proven concepts and ideas/procedures in getting people to rat out other perpetrators?

There is always the, tell me who else is involved and you will not lose your job deal..? or if you want said person gone, which you probably do, a resignation with immediate effect and full pay to end of month or something rather than being fired..?

Incentivize it I guess. Co-operating with the law gives you a lenient sentence. So for instance if he rats out others and you can catch them he only gets fired, not sent to jail.

Plea bargains essentially do that. Reduce the sentence or consequences of the action of the co-operating criminal in exchange for hard evidence and strong convictions on the rest of them.

Just get him charged and let everyone know about it... odds are the others involved will call in sick the next day... and he'll soon spill the beans, no honor amoung thieves and all that:giggle:

Eish.

Ok, so all these ideas are the stuff that goes through everybody's heads. As per normal. I am after the nifty, the really street-smart sort of this is what works in reality sort of thing?

What are you offering him in return?

incentivise him/her to rat, then start criminal proceedings against them anyway

Incentives. It's been mentioned here many times. It's so obvious maybe you think it's trolling. It's obvious because it's what works. The rest of what we all said was for sport.

The really street smart thing is they tell their co-workers , turn the table and set you up.

Fact is, very few people will do something for nothing.. most people, when faced with the proposition of losing their job or ability to get a new job and or prison, would be happy to cooperate, if it means they are gaining something in the process..

Whats the impact on the organisation.

What will be better ? One guy goes down and everyone else cleans up their act

OR

Sort out the problem and drain the swamp ? The organisation could do without the baggage.
