Hi Guys,

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is scheduled to be released in September 2009. Cost is $29 (~R250). Whats the chances that Core(zastore/istore/CAB) sell this at under R300? If they don't, will we be able to buy the license online and download an image? Also, from what I understand it is an upgrade. Does this mean it will be installed over Leopard, or will I be able to do a fresh install?

Good chance. Max would be R400.

Have a look on the Apple site.

Just to be clear: The price for Snow Leopard is *not* $29. The Price for Snow Leopard UPGRADE is $29.

That's UPG from Leopard. However, most Apple users run Leopard, while a few may run Panther or Tiger - those are probably G5/4 machines mostly which can't upgrade to Snow Leopard anyway. Some early Intel machines do run Tiger but I'm sure most people run Leopard.

Leopard shipped almost two years after the first Intel Macs shipped (iMac and MBP - January 2006). Most of the people I know who have Mac that came with Tiger, still runs Tiger. The notable exception, of course, is the gearheads on this forum and at my workplace.

At say R70 a gig, it will cost around R800 ($105) to download and share (at a 1/1 ratio) OSX.6 from bittorrent.

Being that you don't give Core any money this way, I suggest this is the best moral alternative.

Dammm - thought this was a full version... So it looks like I have to buy back my Leopard family pack! Or buy one off eBay!

And Core FTL... They charge more for the white Wii in SA then it ould cost to import the new black one!!!

Mac OS X Snow = US$29 upgrade
Quicktime Pro = US$29

And over at the Core, Quicktime Pro = 473.64
It used to be over 700 until I told them I could get it only for way less. Its just a serial number, FFS, not even media. So, expect 10.6 to be AT LEAST R475
($29 x 8 exchange x 2 for 100% markup + R11 for looking at you = R475)

Upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $9.95...

If you’ve purchased a qualifying computer or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard...

http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

Only thing about this is that it specifies "from the Apple Online Store" and then "If you purchased your computer directly from the Apple Online Store, follow one of these links to participate in the program. Subject to terms and conditions." So I doubt that we apply for it... Would be nice though to get the next installment for 75 bucks..
