I think I'm going to try it tomorrow the only problem is I wear a tie to work so I'll have to fold it nicely in a bag.

Anyone else doing it?

Yea get to work nice and sweaty, no thanx. One can sweat without stinking provided they use sanex :D.

Yeah, done it a few times. Still trying to get into the routine though.

I even bought a pair of shoes I can just leave at work. So I don't have to carry them in my backpack every day.

Go AWAY! :( Drive a car already!
Sheesh, excersize freaks everywhere

i have considered this. Problem is carrying a laptop in a backpack and cycling through town with taxi's all over the place wont b fun!!

If it wasn't for helmet hair (and using my car to go to meetings etc), I wouldn't mind it during summer actually.

Where do you stay? And will you not be sweaty and stinky?

I stay in Parkview and work in Sandton so it shouldn't be too bad.

Planning on going early in the morning so I don't sweat too much.

Started cycling in 2 weeks ago on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday -30 kays in and the same back. I'm not the fastest dude on a bike but I'm still saving around an hour of traveling time a day.

We've got a gym in the building so catch a shower and change before getting to my desk. Only thing I don't dig is putting on the schmelly cycling kit to go home again.

Peak hour traffic is the best because the cars aren't really moving and with a mountain bike I can always use the shoulder or the actual pavement area. I've had the odd chop who sees me in the rearview and intentionally moves over to block me, but more the exception than the rule and if their window is open I give them a wake-up squirt of ice cold energade. Surprisingly taxi's are the first okes to give you a gap

My only stress is once I get to the actual CBD. Maybe it's just me, but I just about expect to get jacked for my bike at every robot... one of those issues I guess I have to get over

... and I actually miss the morning adrenaline rush on a Tuesday and Thursday :)

Apart from the fact that I never managed to acquire the skill of riding a bicycle; and that I work mostly from home; and the mad vehicle drivers on the road (you know who you are :-p ); and the natural elements (wind, rain, um ... bodily shine), NOPE that is not something I will venture to try out. ;-)
But good luck to those who are -- we salute you!

when I was in England, I stayed in a place called Milton Keynes, which is an hour north of London. I used to cycle to work as they had side roads especially for cyclists. Pretty awesoem stuff though

This is Amsterdam's central bicycle parking station, most of the million odd people who live & work in the city, ride a bike, even in the harsh cold of winter

Yes things are different here, our infrastructure and lack of respect for cyclists can make it difficult and dangerous. Workplaces without showers also prevents people from starting to do their bit for the environment.

Still, my wife rides carefully to work with no problems, freshens up once there.
I mainly work from home, but ride to the shops and friends whenever I can.
Like it or not cycling will need to be primary mode of transport in the future, so why not join the vanguard.

I would love to unfortunately I use my car during the day to go out and see clients so it is a necessity. Not sure they'd appreciate me arriving for an appointment on my bicycle! ;)

I dream of being able to cycle to work rather than taking the N1 haul from Pta to Jhb every day!

I didnt notice many cyclers when I was in MK last month (they were probably lost amongst the myriad of roundabouts or hiding behind that massive ski slope :D) but I was amazed how many Berliners there were using of bikes and the demarcated "lanes" on the sidewalks.
