So BP petrol is really bad

Hi.

Since Pick n pay introduced partnership with BP petrol stations, I have been using BP fuel to earn points.

But I'm noticing sth troubling, the car is lately losing power and it's 7k to major service.

I usually feel loss of power at 20k km and I know it's time to change spark plugs, but ever since I started using BP, from 8k km now at 13k km the car is losing power.

This is BP petrol no doubt. But why is their petrol different from others?

I have went back to shell and the car is feeling revived. What is wrong with BP petrol?

PS. I fill 95 unleaded. Car is Honda jazz. I really did try to prove my theory by paying close attention after refill. Shell gives the car power. BP performs average and loses power.
 
I get best result and consumption when using BP, 2nd best is Shell. Stay far away from Caltex.

So I have heard. But this can't be true. I mean I know if I fill engen I get more kms, based on fuelio app. Shell gives me 6.09 per 100km, shell gives me 5.86 per 100km, sasol gives me 5.9 per 100km, BP gives me 5.05 but it's proving ato do sth to performance.

Same trips. I travel on average 120km per day.
 
Actually not. Most buy additives from BASF which changes the quality of their fuel. I don’t know about the situation now, but last time I heard roughly 8 or so years ago Shell and BP put just about every additive in their petrol from BASF whilst caltex and Engen used only one or two.

It's the same fuel, they just put in different additives.

I wonder....can it be that some additives and detergent packs actually degrade performance in a fuel? My reasoning is ...the base fuel...the actual petrol is what combusted in the engine delivering the power....but if you go and add all the additives available from BASF as stated earlier in the thread ..then are you not left with a reduced ratio of actual combustible fuel...and if you use so many stuff...can that stuff not actually end up causing deposits for example? Kinda like in a washing machine? The detergent cleans right? But add to much and you will end up causing soapy scummy residue in the drum. No I know detergent that goes into petrol is not Omo lol.....but just using that to say that perhaps more is not always better????
 
Never noticed any difference before.
I stick to Engen as I am now Level 5 on eBucks and should be getting R4.00 per litre back.
Haven't seen it yet as I only just went from Level nothing to 5 two or three weeks ago
 
It’s your car mate.

Also unless you are running your spark plugs down to the ground that loss of power is also in your imagination.

Especially not at only 20k.

The only thing I can think of if there is a difference in performance is it be a dodgy outlet. ie Contaminated fuel storage units underground, with water for example. How often are garages doing services on their storage units i wonder?

Petrol contains around 10% ethanol, which helps separate water contamination into a separate layer which doesn't get pumped.

I doubt water contamination is the OP's cause for concern.

cool, great to know thanx.
just scratching my head at all other possibilities besides OPs car. Any suggestions? Besides the fact that his battery needs a new car
