So called specials!

I'm not saying that "while stock lasts" is definitively illegal, but it is certainly legally questionable given the CPA's extremely broad prohibition of exploitative and ambiguous marketing.

It is not legally questionable in the slightest...

Its perfectly legal and valid.

Section 30(1) of the Consumer Protection Act states:

"A supplier must not advertise any particular goods or services as being available at a specified price in a manner that may result in consumers being misled or deceived in any respect relating to the actual availability of those goods or services from that supplier, at that advertised price."

So if a supplier organises a low cost promotion "while stock lasts" knowing full well that the expected demand will greatly exceed the available stock, then there are absolutely grounds for claiming deceptive marketing.

Let's take an extreme example: a supplier organises a low cost promotion "while stock lasts" but knows full well that only one stock item is actually available. Clearly a strong case could be made for misleading and deceptive marketing.
 
No there aren't. While Stocks Last is perfectly valid, not deceptive in any way shape or form...

I'm all for screwing companies that are deceptive, but While Stocks Last is not deceptive in any way at all, this whole thread screams of customers who are butthurt and are now throwing their toys out of the cot because they feel hard done by.
