A recommendation really depends on what your requirements are. If price is not a major consideration and you can afford the extra R200 then go for OpenWeb. Otherwise MWeb is totally acceptable alternative (I am on MWeb uncapped with other ISP capped accounts for backup).
I was on the OpenWeb Uncapped LITE package at some stage last year, and found it to be excellent for what I was looking for then. I had no problems with OpenWeb whatsoever.
I have never found browsing etc to be a problem while downloading on the MWeb account. I've had no problem with streaming, "regular" downloads or gaming (local, apart from the peering issue with Telkom) either. P2P type activity/downloading is heavily shaped on MWeb during "peak" times. If you are downloading after 7PM they should have started relaxing their shaping somewhat.
To give you an idea, on a weekday, I'll get around 10KB/s during peak time. After 6PM it will rise to around 60KB/s, then after 11PM it will rise to around 120KB/s. Sometime after midnight, not sure when exactly, it will rise to 280KB/s+ until the next morning.
If you can do it, the best might be to try one account for 2/3 months, and then the other for the next 2/3 months and see which suits you best.

Im on mweb uncapped for 554 a month, and love it. Youtube streams 100% without buffering, gaming is great - get ping of 9 on the igame servers. WoW I get a latency of 250 -350. Use astraweb and torrents. My usage is different every month- but do about 200 - 400 gigs a month.
 
plug and play torrents is also slow on those, best is to buy payed news server for great speeds

or if you are a torrent type person, a seedbox. though it is without doubt that mweb will eventually throttle it if a lot of volume goes via your seedbox.

edit - not necessarily your personal account but if a number of users use it.
 
I can get full linespeed on my downloads at any time of day, its just about using the right filehosts or a combination of good hosts. Honestly though I couldn't care, I can get shows or whatever the case is whenever i like, or if I want to watch something immediately I just stream it, which with about 2-3 minutes of buffer for the ep to get a headstart, works great. Most months I dl about 150-200 gigs, but if I really put some effort into queuing up some dls, I figure I could quite easily triple that or more. Asylum, I honestly have no idea how you manage to get 10 kb/s.

Furthermore, browsing works all the time, no matter what else I am doing. Gaming works fairly well. I suspect the numbers I get are about as good as we get in SA with euro and us servers. I really don't even notice the shaping except for with this one issue, and like I say, I am not even sure its an issue, any way you look at it, we're never going to get brilliant latency, we are damn far away from most of the main game servers.

I should also point out that I share this connection with 9 other people, with another 3 who regularly come over to play LoL. We've had the connection since August. Everyone downloads, everyone uses their net almost all the time, and my mweb uncapped 4 meg almost always satisfies our needs.

You have a 50% chance that Mweb will perform well for you. If not you have to give a calendar month notice, so you could be stuck with a bad product for 60 days.

Axxess Just Uncapped is less than half of Mweb (when shared, which you can) and you can cancel by the 25th of the month.

In my experience, it depends on how much downloading you're gonna do. I used Afrihost 384 uncapped and found that as soon as I went over 20GBs I'd be shaped heavily. Now, they determine whether you're in the upper echelon of heavy users before shaping and throttling and all that. All in all, if you're gonna download a torrent here and there, Afrihost is cool.

MWEB's 384 account is great, but as with all MWEB accounts, the daytime shaping on one-click file hosting and torrents is atrocious. I went to a 4Mb line and it's been great too, although the daytime shaping is still the same. But, the best part about the MWEB account is that you don't have to worry about throttling and aggressive shaping if you download a lot.

To sum it up, in my experience, MWEB is great if you want to download a lot. While Afrihost is cool if you're gonna download now and again.
 
If you are happy to plan on a Monday, what you want to watch on a Saturday, then get MWEB.
 
Well I'm getting 5 (crappy 700MB though) movies right now and they'll be done before this evening. Filehosts still work well for me during the day, some more than others and it helps to use more than 1 as the shaping doesn't stack. If I wanted to max my line during the day I could anytime with 5 or more filehosts, but that usually doesn't make sense. So MWeb works great for (certain) filehosts, but it's always easy to find links on the ones that work best.
 
I have been with MWEB for a long time now and have never looked back! Great service for gaming, browsing and downloading. I can easily do a few hundred GBs a month, but I don't have anything left to download :p
