So finally went test driving today

So an update. After doing all my sums I had to back out last minute. Was just too costly. Ended up taking the Ballade. I must say though that after driving it for the last few days I love it to bits.

Took it to 190km/h the other night :D The interior is so much better the focus'. No regrets at all.

Just a question. Is it normal for the car to be a little thirsty first tank of fuel? I put in 93 and only afterwards saw in the manual they recommend 95. Would this make a difference fuel consumption wise?

the heavy fuel consumption probably has something to do with your enthusiatic driving
it should settle once you do

Haahahahahha.

All new cars are a bit more thirsty at the beginning. Apparently it should settle but rememeber, you will never ever get manufacturer claimed figures. Unless you do pure highway driving...

Air conditioners don't get more efficient by running them from battery power, they only get LESS efficient. Electronic air-conditioner would just load the engine more and be less reliable.

Air conditioners compress air, air compressors require rotation (it is impossible to compress a gas without movement). Taking rotation from the engine, converting it to electrical energy and then converting it back to motion is less efficient than just running the compressor directly from the auxiliary drive belt.

Then why do cars like the BMW M5 have an electric aircon? (I'm pretty sure I read this many years ago)
 
The Ballade's aircon definitely uses the engine. I saw when idling, the revs spike a touch when I put on the aircon.
 
So now I have a question regarding fuel tank and the reserve. A few times I've waiting for the fuel light to come on then drive around for a bit before I fill. Yet I've never been able to fill up with more than 33litres. This is supposed to be a 42 litre tank. I though the reserve was over and above the fuel tanks standard capacity. Why does the fuel light come on so early?

If you ever get to fill your car with the max 42 litres then you will damage it. Never run a fuel tank dry. The light is meant to come on BEFORE the tank is empty, not WHEN it is empty. 9 litre difference is not a lot.

Isn't the reserve over and above the 42litres though? Not part of it?
 
Correct Qwiksilver.
Should be around 3-5 litres over an above your 42l tank.
I've filled 65l in my 55l tank, I do it twice a month.
