I've been told that there are two active towers in my area so I applied for WiMax (no ADSL infrastructure).

Telkom: You will be contacted within 48 hours. <-- Yeah Right!

So, I applied 4 (FOUR) times already and was told the same story everytime. On my last attempt I was told my order has been placed on the 11th of July 2008.

Still nothing!!!

How long does this take? I still cannot believe that one company can be SO generally pathetic!!

Just look around the forum. These questions has been asked before. There are 2 thing you are going to wait for. Telkom get a 3rd party company to do the installation, so, you have to wait for telkom to place the order (normally 2weeks) and then for the 3rd company to come and do the installation (another week). This is the timeframe it took for me...

Application

I sent you a PM.
Please check

ok, so telkom (or actually, som spectra... company) just phone me to come and install. so now we hope for decent signal strength.

no coverage. cant get signal to aasvoelkop, honeydew or krugersdorp. Whoohoo, so now i officially have no internet options!!!

damm...

Tell me, did you phone telkom, and they told you that you have coverage, but when they came to install it, they didn't get a signal?grin...

pretty much, yes. they told me in january or feb that a new tower will be live june/july. they then phoned me 4 weeks ago and told me i had coverage. they eventually came out today and couldnt get decent signal from any tower. *sigh*

Damm, that sucks... I ordered WiMAX last week, telkom told me that I have coverage, so lets hope that they get a signal. How long did you wait before they came to install it?

from the first time i phoned them i think 5 weeks or so. but from the day i got my order number just under two weeks.

hey.

i cant recall. two guys pitched up in a peugeot van. they mounted the antenna to a pole and connected the unit to a PDA. with a web interface they tested for signal in the direction of the honeydew tower and only got 3-4 bars. from the back of my house they tried aasvoelkop and only got 2 bars max.

so ja, no luck once again. i just wish telkom would install a mini-DSLAM in my area. there's 30+ housing complexes and the Retail Crossings shopping complex. the only mini-DSLAMS in the area is on the other side of nic diedericks.

there's already telkom piping underground and telkom junction boxes all over for land lines so cant they just pull fibre through the existing piping, throw concrete and put a mini-DSLAM box up?

I know of at least three people in my complex alone that wants adsl but was told there is no infrastructure. not to mention all the wifi antennas in the area prolly connecting to wisps.

But I don't understand? 3-4 bar's should be more than adequate. It's a digital signal, so it should be strong enough?
