So I got a scooter

I bought a secondhand Eaglewing 125 scooter. Not very fast though, max 80km/h, but worth it. I'll get my learners and license so I wont drive in fear. A friend bought the Vukascuta 110cc bike, it's semi automatic. He claims he got max 100km/h, and 40km/l on fuel. For me it's just to get used to the bike driving in traffic. It feels very strange. If I could buy on credit, I would have bought something bigger, and better make. Another friend of mine have the Kymco 250cc scooter, and very very impressed with it. And his a pain in the ... when it comes to quality, and he say he wouldn't buy another make again.

I think you should double check this.
My understanding is that you need a operators license for all motor cycles in the two categories < 125 and >125.
AFAIK all that changed recently was the small bike category increased from = or < 50cc to 125cc.
The min age for the small bike category is still 16 whereas it's 18 for the big bike.

I'm always amazed at the girls sitting side saddle in the far east - side saddle just looks so awkward and unbalanced.
I really wouldn't mind a small bike, but with the current weather...I'd rather have my fingers, is all I'm saying. ^_^

In the far east they have mittens that attach to the handle bars instead of using gloves - they work quite well, but here in SA there's the risk of them getting stolen of the bike when parked.

i may be wrong. but last i checked thats what i heard so my source may be wrong.
 
You definitely need a bike licence for any size bike. And you need a bike learners first, so even if you have a car licence you need to go do your learners again, then do the bike test.

There are 2 licences: A1, and A. You get an A1 licence if you do the test on a bike less than 125cc, and you get an A if you do the test on a bike > 125cc. The test itself is exactly the same in both cases.

Age comes into it as well, but I'm not so sure on the law there - I think you can ride a 125 only, if you're 16 - 18, and a 250 if you're over 18.

antithesis... bought it off a friend :D Though you can pick up a brand new Vuka for around 5k.

Loving the scooter! Parking, petrol and traffic are no longer problems for me :D

ppl do give you dirty looks, especially if you fill up with R30, and they have to fork out R600-R900 for a full tank :D

Last night, I was filling up the tank (to save 30c :D ) and the guy in the Pajero on the pump next to me went "you gotta be kidding me!", when he saw how much it was to fill my tank :D

Was shocked to see that to fill up a Toyota bakkie (the biggest and best) was over R900... :eek: :sick:

...filled up with R30 and drove away... :D
 
We might differ on our religions and all that stuff, but we have two things in common - to save on high fuel costs, and myadsl :D

Since when are you back? I thought you had dissapeared... I always heard of The Librarian as a legend round here! lol
 
I have something bigger than a 125cc scooter. It’s the Bajaj Pulser 180cc bike. A proper bike. And it can do 115Km/h without the sprocket upgrade. With the sprocket you can get that extra 10 km/h you need.
On the last tank I got 35 km/l. Took me R130 to fill up, and got me like 550 km. My friends with their big bike laugh at me when they stand next to their 600cc or 750`s, but when I mention the mileage I get, they just say… not bad. They go for R15k now. Not to bad.
